Whether FEM Gives Exact Solutions

FEM does not provide exact solutions because the domain is divided into discrete elements, introducing approximation. It is still highly accurate due to discretization. FEM is more versatile than other methods because it can model even complex geometries by discretization, and can simulate different physics and their interactions. It also easily handles boundary conditions with natural ones being automatically satisfied. Additionally, the algebraic equations produced are often symmetrical and sparse, allowing for optimized solution methods that decrease storage and computation time.

Whether FEM gives exact solutions?

Why? Why FEM is versatile over the

other methods?

As per my study, FEM does not give exact solution

it is an approximate method, but it gives high
accuracy due to discretization.
Everything in analysis in real world is mostly
approximate, because in real life equation of
solution is not linear.
Other reason is that in one problem we discretize
into 8 parts and in same element we discretize
discretize by 16 parts, so can’t get exact solution.

Reasons why FEM is versatile over the other

methods:

1.Almost any geometry however complicated

can be discretized. This is one of the biggest
shortcomings of other methods.
2.Variety of Physics that can be simulated-from
Structural, Fluids to electromagnetism and
their interactions.
3.The boundary conditions in FEA can be
addressed very easily. The natural boundary
conditions are automatically satisfied.
4.Most importantly: The resulting algebraic
equations are symmetrical (not all problems)
and sparse-there are many optimized solution
methods are available to solve these linear
symmetrical-sparse algebraic equations which
lead to a decreased data storage and
computational time.
5. A large selection of specialized
elements available at an engineer's disposal.
