Rule 1 – Short Adjectives + er than

Long -> longer than (largo)

Tall<-taller than (alto)

Short<-shorter than (corto)

Small<-smaller than (pequeño)

Light ->lighter than (ligero)

Old->older than (Viejo)

Rule 2-short adjective ending .e + r than e.g.

Large->larger than (largo)

Huge->huger than (enorme)

Cute->cuter than (tierno)

Strange ->stranger than (extraño)

Wise->wiser than (sabio)

Rude->ruder than (grosero)

Gentle ->gentler than (gentil)

Rule 3-short adjective ending in a consonant-y,y-> ier than

E.g. happy + ier

Heavy->heavier than(pesado)

Funny->funnier than (divertido)

Pretty->prettier than (bonito)

Lovely->lovelier than (adorable

Ugly ->uglier than (feo)

Silly->sillier than (timido)


Rule 4 – short adjective ending in a vowel and consonant + er than

e.g. fat + ter than.

Big ->bigger than (grande)

Thin-<thinner than (Delgado)

Hot-<hotter than(caliente)

Sad->sadder than (triste)

mad->madder than (enojados)

Rule5 adjectives with two or more syllables add “more”

Useful -> more useful (útil)

Famous-<more famous (famoso)

Exiting->more exiting (emocionante)

Difficult->more difficult (difícil)

Rule 6 some adjectives have a different form

Good –better (Bueno)

Bat-worse (malo)

Much-manny (mucho)

a-litle (poco)

far- farther (lejos)
