Day 2 1445 Alvaro Sanchez

This document discusses how Satmotion Pocket, an automated remote commissioning system, can help commission remote sites. It outlines the challenges of manually commissioning remote sites, such as time consumption and human errors. Satmotion Pocket allows installers to point antennas, adjust cross-polarization and interference, and optimize power remotely. It saves costs by reducing installation time and penalties from interference. Installation logs are recorded for quality control. Overall, Satmotion Pocket maximizes bandwidth efficiency and lowers commissioning expenses compared to manual methods.

AutoCommissioning
Benefits of Integrasys’ Automated Remote
Commissioning System

• Point, peak, pol, and ASI records can be

accessed afterwards to approve the installation
work or to order the installer back to re-do the
job.
• Accurate pointing and interference nulling
• Maximizes receive SNR and bandwidth
efficiency of installed remotes
• Commissioning a remote no longer requires
real time coordination among satellite operator,
VSAT network operator, and installers in the
field.
• Gone is the phone call
• Gone are fixed time windows (typically 30
minutes
• Up to 10 Users can use Satmotion Pocket
simultaneously.
AutoCommissioning
Cost Savings:
Satmotion Pocket has the potential
to save between 350K$ and 460K$
of operation cost for a 5000 VSAT
deployment.

 Based on Price Waterhouse Coopers deployment cost analysis.

Installation Step 1
Point the VSAT Antenna
• Course Pointing gets a remote into its network with a temporary line up.
• Can be done slowly without any cellular data connection using only the
azimuth and elevation information from VSAT modem.
• Done quickly by Satmotion Pocket where mobile data service available.

• Fine Pointing done while Satmotion Pocket tracks receive SNR during sweeps.
Installation Step 2
Null the Cross Pol
• Cross pol is nulled in much the same way that fine pointing is done.
• Installer rotates feed past max upstream cross pol isolation and then back to it.
Installation Step 4
Peak the Power of the BUC
• Installer moves satellite modem indoors between steps 3 and 4.
• Step 4 must be done with the modem attached to its production IFL cables.
• 1 dB compression point found by increasing modem’s transmit power until
+1 dB modem transmit power no longer results in +1 dB receive SNR at hub.
Installation Step 3
Measure ASI
• ASI measurement is not necessary if the antenna is pointed properly in step 1.
• Antenna’s azimuth needs to be fine tuned if excessive ASI is detected.

Installation Step 5
Find Nominal Transmit Power
• Satmotion Pocket resets the modem to get the remote back into its network.
• Satmotion Pocket finds the modem’s nominal transmit dBm under clear skies.
• Satmotion Pocket logs the installation measurements.
