Topic /Title Electric Circuit
Grade Level Grade 8
Time Allotment 60 minutes
Learning Competencies and Objectives
At the end of the cycle student should be able to:
1. identify the components of an electric circuit
2. define an electric circuit
ELICIT (5minutes) MATERIALS
At the start of the session, the teacher will ask the class on what they TV / Laptop
need to light up a bulb. Let some student representatives stand to reveal Projector
his/her answers. Board
ENGAGE (3minutes)
Divide the class into groups. Battery
Give each group a battery, single wire and a bulb.
Instruct the class to find ways on how to light up the bulb given a single Bulb
wire and a battery. (as many possible answers)
Ask the following questions to the students: Wire
a. how did you arrange the materials given to you to make the bulb light
up?
b. Are all combinations you have done successful in lighting up the bulb?
Why or why not?
Objective Setting
By asking the key question, the teacher is setting the learning objective for
the lesson.
EXPLORE (12minutes)
Designing the Experiment Battery
Working in groups, students will perform an activity about a simple circuit Bulb
(The Loop) Wires
Switch
Key Questions:
What happens to the bulb when you close the switch? Why is this so?
What do you observe when you open the switch?
EXPLAIN(20minutes)
Let the students present their data from the results of the experiment done. Manila Paper
Markers
Key Questions:
What do you observe when the switch is closed
but the bulb is disconnected?
What do you observe when the switch is closed
but the dry cell is disconnected?
In your own words, describe what an electric
circuit is.
ELABORATE(10minutes)
Key Questions: Projector/TV
The teacher will show a video presentation explaining the electrical circuit
and what its components are. (from Youtube)
The teacher will give some of the basic symbols used in electronics.
EVALUATE (5 minutes)
Ask the students to explain the importance of each of the components
of an electric circuit.
EXTEND (5minutes)
Students will answer the following prompt as an exit ticket:
Illustrate a schematic diagram of a flashlight using symbols.
