2019 NATIONAL” NO SMOKING “MONTH SYMPOSIUM

Pursuant to DepEd Memorandum No. 070, s. 2019 entitled, “2019 National No Smoking
Month Celebration” all elementary, secondary and senior high schools are instructed to conduct
activities related to the Observance of National No Smoking Month held every month of June
focusing on promoting the implementation of DepEd Order No. 48, s. 2016 entitled “Policy and
Guidelines on Comprehensive Tobacco Control” in all schools and DepEd offices.

With this mandate, Lala National High School, Lala, Pagadian City held its program last
June 28, 2019 at LNHS JHS Science Laboratory and LNHS JHS Computer Laboratory at exactly
8:00 in the morning ,adopting this year’s theme: “Tobacco Breaks Hearts “ from the World
Health Organization (WHO),” with the following objectives to wit:

1. To raise public awareness (especially to the students) on the ill effects of


smoking.
2. To encourage the smokers to give up the habit.
3. Advocates the devastating effects of tobacco use and its exposure from the
secondhand smoke do to heart health.

Beforehand, as agreed during the teachers meeting the following teachers were
chosen to be the Resource Speakers during the event; viz:

1. Shiery Gil A .Camahalan


2. Richleomyr B.Bodiongan
3. Vicente S.Luzon
4. Dominic A.Sarayan
5. Annalou T. Arao

The students were convened in two venues, Grades 7,8,10 and 12 were at
JHS Science Laboratory while Grades 9 and 11 were assembled at the JHS Computer
Laboratory.

Each of the speakers had prepared slides about the ill effects of using the substance
and had some videos to show how dangerous and fatal the stuff was! The speakers were
able to instill to the minds of the students the ill effects of tobacco using and if in case they
were into it, then it is a must to do some actions to stop it immediately and must AVOID it
for safe health.
The program was facilitated in with some teachers like Vilma C.Dumayaca, ,
Juvelyn Delos Reyes, Therese Mae Albaracin, Mae Pasadilla, Lemin Y.Ligan, Evelyn
B.Plaza, Marilou F.Lagare and with the overall supervision of Myrla D.Lumacang and
Ma.Lynette P. Jaranilla but of course, with the overall operational manager Myrna
B.Bodiongan.

The conduct of the said program was a great success and at least the school was
able to usher in the observance of June as National No-Smoking Month in the Philippines,
pursuant to Proclamation No.183 s.1993 signed by then President Fidel V. Ramos
declaring the month of June of every year as National No Smoking Month in the country.
