What is family?

Family for me means the ones who will be beside me no matter what happens, the most loved ones. The outer world
loves me when I am strong and effective and dislikes me when I am weak and ineffective. Actually, some good friends
also count as a family according to this description. Family are the people that stay beside me even in the toughest of
times, the worst of the worst times, even whenever something is very wrong with me.

Family for me means everything. If I can bring them all in one place, that will really make me happy and complete.

Family means more than just the people you live with. Family are the people that you can count on, trust, and love. My
family is so special to me. They have been through everything with me and have always been by my side. I would not
trade my family for the world!

I am beyond blessed to have such a great family! I have the greatest parents. They do so much for my! I am blessed with
a mother that love me unconditionally, a 21 old sister that loves to play the computer, a 18 year old sister that loves to
put her lotion on her body. l These people make up my family. I do not know what I would do with out them. I am the
youngest child in the family. Being the youngest pushes me to be the best I can be. I want to show my siblings and
cousins how to be a good person and act right. I want to set a good example for them. I do not want to let them down. I
know they count on me and look up to me.

Over all family comes first (after God of course). We could not live without family. We would not even be here if it was
not for our family. We should treasure our family forever. Family is always there for us, and always has our back. I think
the definition of family should be deeper than just the people you live with.

Families provide guidance and love. They provide emotional support, care and encouragement. They take care of our
well-being, add balance to our lives and ground us.

Family is the smallest unit of society. Everybody education starts in the family. Love, respect and morals start in the
family. They keep their secrets and share them with each other.
Family is different in Turkey. They love each other with a different love. Family members never leave each other behind.
Teenagers sometimes hate their parents but their parents always understand about this situation. If their children fall
into wrong paths, they try save him/her.

Essential characteristics of a family

1.Spend Quality Time Together -

A characteristic of healthy families is that they spend time doing enjoyable activities together. "Healthy families tend to
select activities that promote the family as being important and help the family to grow closer," Often, these activities
become family traditions, such as sharing meals together, having family outings every weekend or playing sports
together.

2.Respect Each Other - Respect is an important characteristic of healthy families. Family members accept that they each
have their own personalities, qualities and interests. Everyone plays an important role in the family. When there is
conflict between family members, it is resolved in a positive and healthy manner. Family members also acknowledge
each other's accomplishments and show appreciation for other members.

Family religious faith

Spiritual life is a part of family life. The common belief that they share gives the family the inner strength to get through
any type of a difficult situation while holding the family together as a unit.
Spend time together– Find activities each person enjoys and participate enthusiastically. If you cannot actually engage
in the activity be sure to support one another’s interests through attention and encouragement.

Effective Communication– Emphasize that each person’s ideas are valid and everyone should have the chance to share
happy news as well as what’s bothering them. Being a good listener is essential in the communication process. Listening
displays respect. It shows family members you care about what concerns them.

Appreciation– Every day family members contribute in ways that are worthy of appreciation. It is important to be aware
of their efforts and express your gratitude with meaningful words and gestures. This can be done simply by saying,
“Thank you for doing the dishes,” or perhaps leaving a quick note where they can find it. It is also important to
appreciate others not only for what they do, but also for who they are! This helps to increase the recipient’s self-esteem
and deepens a caring bond between family members.

Commitment– ‘Putting family first’ means that everyone takes time to consider how their decisions will affect the other
members of the family. They are concerned about one another’s welfare and happiness, and seek to structure their
lifestyle in ways that promote unity and harmony.

Good coping skills– Members of strong families demonstrate the ability to stand firmly together during a crisis. By
utilizing effective communication skills and maintaining a positive out look, families can deal with difficult times and find
strength that will sustain them through any crisis.

Values and convictions– Identifying and practicing a set of deeply held values and moral standards is an essential
component of strong families. Some families demonstrate these beliefs through participation in organized religion while
others involve themselves in worthy causes. Parents can express values by having open discussions about cultural
trends, reading books to children which contain moral messages, or making a written document that states, “This family
believes…” and posting it where everyone can see it. The most effective method, however, is allowing your children to
observe you practicing your ethical convictions. Children may not hear everything we say, but they see everything we
do!
