Compaction and FDT Methodology

The document provides a methodology for compacting soil in layers and conducting field density tests (FDT). Existing soil is excavated and compacted using vibratory rollers or compactors. Imported backfill soil is added in 300mm layers and compacted up to the gravel bedding level. A field density test is conducted for every 50 square meters after compacting the final layer to check the compaction level.

COMPACTION AND FDT METHODOLOGY

1. Excavate imported backfill materials down to the level of the existing soil.

2. Compact the existing soil thoroughly using vibratory roller for large area and tampering machine or walk behind

compactor for small area.

3. For the next layer, backfill the imported soil up to 300mm from the first layer compaction.

4. Repeat step 3 every 300mm for the next layer up to the last layer or bottom level of the gravel bedding.

5. After the compaction of the last layer, conduct field density test (1 hole of FDT per 50 sq. m.)
