AVEVA Everything3D™ (AVEVA E3D™) allows designers to utilise an array of applications contained within
the program modules. This training guide provides discipline specific training for the Isodraft module.
1.1 Aim
The aim of this training module is to provide Draw Administrators with the knowledge and skills necessary to
customise the Isodraft working environment.
1.2 Objectives
In general terms, the course objectives are to provide participants with the ability to configure and customise
Isometric Production and Symbols.
1.3 Prerequisites
It is expected that trainees will have completed the TM-1831 AVEVA Everything3D™ Automatic Drawing
Production training course. Trainees who can demonstrate appropriate knowledge of other AVEVA E3D
applications and techniques may also be permitted to undertake the training.
Training will consist of oral and visual presentations, demonstrations and set exercises. Each workstation will
have a training project, populated with model objects. This will be used by the trainees to practice their
methods, and complete the set exercises.
Certain text styles are used to indicate special situations throughout this document, here is a summary;
Menu pull downs and button press actions are indicated by bold dark turquoise text.
Where additional information is presented, or reference is made to other documentation the following
annotation will be used:
Additional information
System prompts will be bold, italicised, and presented in inverted commas i.e. 'Choose function'.
Isodraft, the Isometric drawing production module uses a series of Option Files that describe how the Isometric
should be drawn. This chapter describes how the Draw Administrator can modify and create a Standard
Isometric Project Option File. A selection of options is discussed to give the trainee an outline of how to
configure Isodraft.
This Chapter should be read in conjunction with Chapter 3 Isodraft Symbol Libraries.
Login to AVEVA E3D using the details provided by the trainer. They will typically be as shown below:
Username: A.DRAWADMIN
Password: A
MDB: A-PIPING
When AVEVA E3D Isodraft has been loaded, a default screen layout will be displayed.
In order to create certain elements in the Isodraft module it is necessary that the User is a member of the
Isodraft administration team ISOADMIN.
Model Explorer can be opened by selecting this option from Display> Explorers> Model Explorer.
The Isodraft Option File describes how the Isometric should be drawn.
Default Option files are supplied with AVEVA E3D for both types and can be found in folders in the AVEVA
E3D Data Area typically: C:\Users\Public\Documents\AVEVA\Everything3D\Data2.10 which holds a sub
folder called DFLTS. Q EVAR 'AVEVA_DESIGN_DFLTS'
The project environment variable, for example %TRAISO% for this training session, describes the location of
the project specific Option Files which are held in the sub folders.
This variable can be checked in the Command Window using the command q evar (Project-Code) ISO in
AVEVA E3D. For example, typing: q evar TRAISO, returns:
The directory “lis” is used to store System Isometric Lists and the “und” directory is used to store
company Isometric backing sheets, the use of both of these directories are discussed later.
In order to create or modify Option Files the Administrator is required to be a member of the ISOADMIN team.
The Options file gadget lists the existing option files set up at project initialisation.
Filename: TRAINING
The Options File form is then displayed. If this form is dismissed all options will be set to default values.
Clicking any of the functional area gadgets allows the relevant options to be set individual by the
Administrator.
The default layout of an isometric drawing produced through Isodraft is shown in the figure below. By editing
the options file it is possible to modify the output format of the isometric. Some of the possible changes will be
discussed here.
This form is used to set the Plot File Path, Name and Output Type. The form is also used to specify the
TrueType Font, Message file location and Sheet Splitting.
Comments This descriptive text entered by the Administrator describes the content of the Options File.
The Plots options on the Administrative Options form controls the types of isometric files that are produced,
allowing a choice of PDMS, DXF, PDMS + DXF or the more modern output formats of PDF, PRINT, IMAGE
and EMF.
The newer output types can be used with True Type Fonts.
Plotfile (Directory/Filename) - The Plotfile options set the directory for plotfiles in the Directory text
box (this will be set to Local, i.e. the current directory, if no name is specified) and the filename in the
Filename box.
Plotfile names have a three digit number appended to them, so the default filename (plot), will give
plotfiles named plot001, plot002 etc.
If Use Drawing Name is selected, Plot files can be named based on the Pipe or Spooler Drawing Name.
If one of the other formats is selected then plot files have the appropriate suffix appended for example
if DXF output is specified, the filenames have .dxf appended (i.e. plot001.dxf etc.) and for PDF .pdf is
appended (i.e. plot001.pdf etc.).
Uncheck the PDMS and DXF Output check boxes and check PDF Output, Colour Mode BW and View.
True Type Fonts - Selecting the True Type Font Option allows the Administrator to select one of the
TTF as defined in Admin.
Messages (Directory/Filename) - The Messages options on the Administrative Options form set the
directory for the message file in the Directory text box (this will be set to Local, i.e. the current
directory, if no name is specified) and the filename in the Filename box.
Sheet Splitting - Isodraft automatically splits isometrics onto several sheets if there is too much
information to be read easily on a single sheet. The Sheet splitting options on the Administrative Options
form control how the isometrics are split. The default amount of information is described as 100%.
Increasing Sheet Splitting value with Percentage set increases the complexity of the sheets, decreasing
it will decrease the complexity of the sheet.
Set the number of drawings you want the isometric to be split onto in this case to 3 and the select the
Drawings option.
Split points can be set precisely by creating split ATTAs at the required 3D position in the design, there
is an option to ignore there attas. Selecting Drwg split point repeatability will create an inter-database
macro that can be run in Model.
Miscellaneous options
Increment Revisions Attribute Will create an inter-database macro to increment the Pipe
Revision Flag in Model.
Once the settings have been made, click the OK button on the Administrative Options form and click the
Dismiss button on the Options form.
Open the Administrative… form and set the sheet splitting to 100 Percentage and repeat the process to
produce a single sheet.
This form is used to define the sheet layout options for the Drawing. The divisions of the Sheet Layout
Options are explained in the following sections.
Size/Stacking
The Size/Stacking section of the Sheet Layout Options form contains the following:
The Drawing size of the plotted sheet produced by ISODRAFT can be set to an ISO (International
Standards Organisation) A–size, to an American standard size, or to specified dimensions. The default
size is A2. The selected paper size will be divided between the isometric area, the material list area, the
title block area, the margins, and so on.
The Drawing size option button sets the sheet to a standard size or you can specify the sheet
dimensions explicitly by entering the values in millimetres or inches into the Height and Width text boxes.
For a non-standard size, the Drawing size option will be shown as User.
Graphics
The Graphics section of the Sheet Layout Options form contains the following:
Isometric type - This option controls the type of isometric plot produced:
o Combined (fab/erec) outputs a fully dimensioned and annotated isometric drawing with a detailed
material list specifying all piping components, bolts etc.
o Fabrication outputs a similar format to the Combined format except that the following information,
which is relevant only to the erector, is omitted:
- Plant coordinates.
- 'Connected to' and 'continued on' comments at pipeline ends.
- Attachment point details.
- The sequence numbers of valves and related items in the material list, hand-wheel spindles,
flow arrows etc., unless relevant to a welded pipe assembly.
- Gasket and bolt item numbers in the material list.
- The erection materials list.
- All fabrication materials are omitted from the material list apart from loose flanges. Material
list item numbers for fixed flanges are not listed, although full information is still included for
any flanges which are to be left loose for onsite welding.
o Spool. This type of isometric is intended for the fabricator. A separate fabrication drawing is
produced for each spool. Only fabrication information will appear. In-line components, including
valves, will be omitted unless they are to be welded in to form an integral part of the spool assembly
during shop fabrication.
o No Isometric plot. This option does not produce a plot file. Output filenames must be specified, e.g.
for a Material List file, to obtain any output.
Backing sheets - It is possible to specify up to nine backing sheets. Set the Backing sheet directory
option button on the Sheet Layout options form to Project or Company and then select the sheet
filenames from the scrolling list.
Select the All off button to switch off all backing sheets.
The Macro BlankA2.pmlmac was used to create the plot file and is not normally needed.
Piping line thickness - The Piping line thickness specifies the line width drawn for pipe. The value
must be between 1 and 10. The default is 3.
Specifications
The Specifications section of the Sheet Layout Options form contains the following:
Insulation / Tracing - Allows the administrator to determine how the specifications are shown through
the selection of Off, Tube Only or Tube + Components
The Flow Arrows and Margins section of the Sheet Layout Options form contains the following:
Margins - The Margins text boxes allow the administrator to set different widths for each margin
edge independently for each side of the drawing, i.e. the areas between the isometric frame borders
and the sheet.
For example, a large bottom margin will allow space for information from an AutoCAD drawing frame.
Set the Margins Left, Right and Top to 18mm and the Bottom to 54mm.
Reserved Areas
The Reserved Areas section of the Sheet Layout Options form contains the following:
Reserved area height – Drawing / Material List - The Reserved area height text boxes can be used
to specify the height of an area at the bottom of the drawing area, or at the bottom of the Material List,
which ISODRAFT is to leave blank. This reserved area is inside the bottom margin. You can use a
reserved area to avoid overwriting pre-printed information on the sheet, or to allow for the addition of
other data from an underlay plot.
To create a reserved area for a drawing, enter the height of the area in the Drawing text box and to
create a reserved area for a Material List, enter the height of the area in the Material List text box. Both
are measured from the top of the bottom margin.
The following Isometric is produced as described before to show the new Backing Sheet and margin settings.
Units
The Units section of the Dimensioning Options form contains the following:
Input units - The Bore and Distance option allows the user to modify the dimensional units used in
the forms. When the input units are changed, displayed defaults (e.g. margin sizes) will change when
the window they are displayed in is re-displayed.
Output units - The options available for dimensional units used on the drawing are as follows:
- Imperial lengths inch<2ft + diameters - distances less than 2 ft. will be output in inches;
lengths of 2 ft. or more will be in feet and inches.
- Imperial lengths inch<1ft + diameters - distances less than 1 ft. will be output in inches;
lengths of 1 ft. or more will be in feet and inches.
The Tolerances option sets Offset and Angle tolerances. These should match the data consistency checking
tolerances used in Model.
Dimensions
The Dimensions section of the Dimensioning Options form contains the following:
Representation - Controls how dimensions are drawn for component, overall and support dimensions.
- The start or end of a Branch, changes of direction & component connection points.
- The start or end of a Branch, changes of direction (bends, elbows, etc.) & some component
connection points.
Support dimensions can be switched Off, or shown as String or Overall and have additional settings
of:
- Alongside Support dimensions shown on the same side of the Pipe as component
dimensions.
- Opposite Support dimensions shown on the opposite side of the Pipe from
component dimensions.
The Standout text boxes control the standout distances for different dimensions.
Standout distances can be set for component dimensions, overall dimensions and support/hanger
dimensions separately. By default, support dimensions are positioned at ½ the standout for string or composite
dimensions and overall dimensions are positioned at 1½ times the standout for string or composite
dimensions.
If the string/composite standout distance is reset, the support and overall standouts will be changed
automatically so that they are still ½ and 1½ times the string / composite standout, respectively. These values
can then set them separately if required.
The above figure shows some settings for dimensioning. The default settings in Dimensioning Options form
are:
Vertical Pipes - This option can be set to Dimensions only, Elevations Only, Dimensions +
Elevations or Suppress all elevation notes.
Bend radius - Standard bend radius can be set as a Distance or Diameters, for example, Diameters
5. In this case the bend radius will only be output on the Isometric if it differs from this default.
Plotted fitting leg length - Defines the length of the Isodraft symbols.
- Degrees
- Ratio
- Percent
- Grads
- Inch/foot
- mm/metre
Skew Box
The Skew Box section of the Dimensioning Options form contains the following:
Skew Display - Sets the representation of Full Box or Triangle. For Triangles, the dimensioning style
can be specified using the Triangles options.
Hatching - The Administrator may use this pull-down to control hatching of the skew box triangles.
Partial hatching is controlled by setting the maximum length of hatch line (in the Extent text box) that
will be drawn. The default hatching Spacing is 3 mm.
Zero length skews on falling lines - Falling lines containing Butt Weld Tees or Olets are often
modelled with a zero length variable angle bend at the offline p-point of each Tee or Olet. Toggling the
zero length skews checkbox allows the user to switch skew boxes on/off for the off line legs. They can
be represented by full boxes or by triangles.
OFFTOL and NONDIR - The addition of OFFTOL attributes to catalogue ppoints means that
components can have a connection whose direction is allowed to be offset within the limits of the offtol
angle. When a ppoint has an offtol set, the attribute NOMDIR can be used to set the intended
arrive/leave direction of the component.
NOMDIR is the equivalent to the use of zero length bends to generate a small angle in a joint and is
meant to replace the use of zero length bends where possible.
In practice the main use of zero length bends is with tee components where vertical branches are
required from a sloping line. Other possibilities for offsets include flanges where it might be a
requirement to offset slightly from a horizontal flange to obtain a fall.
The supplied catalogues provided by AVEVA contain examples of offset ppoints on tees and flanges.
Tapping Branches
The Tapping Branches section allows the user to set the scale and representation on Tappings.
Continuation Notes - Continuation notes can be output on Pipe, Drawing or Pipe + Drawing.
Support Names - Can be defined as: Off, Tag only or Tag + Item Code
Instrument Tags/Size - Names or Item Codes can be used for instrument tags. Instrument Balloon
Sizes can be specified as a numeric value.
Whitespace Search
The Whitespace Search section of the Annotation Options form contains the following:
Message whitespace search accuracy - This can be set to Normal, High or Extreme and is used to
prevent text strings overwriting the graphics.
When the border round a part number is changed the border around the weld number is also changed in
shown below:
Part number enclosure types Straight box (default) Weld Numbers in circles
The direction of valve spindles and gearboxes can be changed from E,N,U to X,Y,Z.
The Display of item codes section controls the display of item codes in the material list and the isometric.
Coordinates
The Coordinates section of the Annotation Options form contains the following:
Format - Controls the co-ordinate origin system allowing the User to select from: User, ENU, XYZ, or
Numbers. Select the X, Y, Z option.
End Coordinates at - Toggles the display of end co-ordinates in relation to the feature of the pipe ends
and connections.
Keys
The Keys section of the Annotation Options form contains the following:
Use name as Item code on components with SKEYs - These options enable specific SKEYs to use
the name attribute instead of a derived name from the spref attribute.
Text to indicate Logical True/False - Replacement logical text for example YES or NO.
Options
The Options section of the Material List form contains the following:
Plotted List - Controls the position of the material list. The options are Off, Left or Right.
Set the Plotted List to Right.
Listing per - Defines how the material list is generated, i.e.: one/pipe or one/sheet.
Line Spacing Percent - Controls the space between lines on the material list.
Part Numbers - From db, individual, From db, totalled, From db, pipe indiv and Generated.
If spooling has been used, part numbers are already generated and can be taken from the database.
Columns in the material list can then be user defined, though they need to be set through another form.
See section 2.10 Material Columns.
Detail Texts
The Detail Texts section of the Material List form contains the following:
Descriptions - Controls output of detail and material text and where to obtain them. The options are
Off, Detail & Material texts, Detail text only, Material text only.
Detail Text - Can be taken from the Rtext, Stext or Ttext attributes of the SDTE element.
Material Test - Can be taken from Xtext, Ytext, or Ztext attributes of the MATXT element.
Item Codes
Item codes can be derived from the name of SPCOM or from a UDA. The Item codes section of the Material
List form contains the following:
Bolting
Bolting information can be turned off; bolt lengths can be added to the descriptions and/or the item codes. The
length can replace some ‘default text’ in the Description and/or item code stored in the database by using the
replacement text input gadget.
The Bolting section of the Material List form contains the following:
Bolting - This check box determines whether bolting information is required.
Length in Description – Can be set to Excluded, Prefixed, Appended and Replace Text.
Length in Itemcode - Presents three options of Excluded, Appended and Replace Text.
Cutting List
The CUTTINGLIST command adds a list of cut pipe lengths to the material list. Each separate pipe length is
always identified by:
• The cut length in mm (e.g. 2219) or feet and inches (e.g. 7’2.5/8”) depending on the type of units
selected (refer to UNITS command).
For pulled bends, the length measured around the centre line of the tube will be included on the cutting list.
The RADI attribute of the bend must be set.
A length which includes either a loose flange or a field-fit weld will have a fitting allowance incorporated into
the plotted length (refer to LOOSEFLANGEALLOWANCE command).
Any special requirements, such as a pulled bend; loose flange; a field-fit weld or cutback allowance, this will
be highlighted in the remarks column.
Additionally the user can add the following items to the table
• The end preparations for the pipe, according to the following list:
PE Plain
BE Bevelled
TH Threaded
SC Screwed
SA Saddled end
Where a pipeline is split over more than one drawing, the cut pipe list on each drawing contains only the
pipe lengths for that sheet. The default is that the numbering will follow on from the last number on the
preceding drawing. The cut piece numbering sequence can be restarted from 1 on each continuation
drawing by giving the command CUTTinglist PERDrawing
Cutback Rules
The Cut Back Rule Definition form is displayed from the Cutback Rules… Link Label.
CUTBack 2 INCH ON ALL BENDS WITH (ABOR GE 100 AND ABOR LT 200)
Pipe Piece Names can be sub-stringed using delimiters, tagged and included in the Cutting List.
Spooling
The Spooling section of the Material List form contains the following:
Spool Numbers - Off, From db, Number across Sheets or Number per Sheet.
Spool Prefix - Off, Default (Atext 257), From SPLP attribute (Spooler database) or Text.
The Material List File section of the Material List form allows the user to determine whether the material list
can be output to a file per drawing or for all drawings, the size of the file, the directory and filename.
Check the Material list file check box. Click the OK button on the form.
If the SPOOL module is used, with the part numbers from the database option, the Administrator is able to
define the material list format. Further to this, the user can specify which items to appear on the list, and in
what order they appear.
The form controls the content, nature and order of standard column details in the material list. Additional
columns can also be defined by setting column title, attribute or UDA, column width and order.
To use the form select the ‘?’ button under the required column
Selecting Standard gives the normal items used on the Material List.
Selecting Spref gives information stored on the spref for example a UDA.

In this example the Pipe NAME has been positioned X 380mm, Y 37mm and Height 3.0mm.
As True Type Fonts are being used in this example all the text shown has been added as described in
the next section “Standard Texts”.
Currently in Isodraft there is only the option to underlay a Plot File. As True Type Fonts are NOT supported
on Plot Files, all the Text must be added in Isodraft.
The Administrator is limited to the amount of Standard text that can be added via the form so it is necessary
to edit the option file manually using a suitable text editor. Typical syntax is as follows:
The following Isometric has been produced using the option file TTF_with_backing_sheet.opt.
Enables output of selected component attributes including UDAs in the isometric drawing area.
Option for style of boxing (unboxed, straight, angled, round, triangular or round).

- Reinforcement pads.

Plot File Name. Dpfname ‘/C:\AVEVA\Plant\PlantTraining2.1\Training\userdata\tapping.plt’. In this
example the DPFN has been set on Instrument /FE-117.
Isodraft can automatically pick up these plot files when detailing and place them on the isometric. The detail
plot is output on the same drawing sheet as the component with which it is associated.
Detail Area output is switched on using the ‘Detail Plots’ form. The plots can be positioned by stacking them
from a position and in a direction. Up to 20 Detail Areas can be plotted on a single isometric.
- Reference attributes are expanded to give the full AVEVA E3D name.
In the example above, the Detail Plot is positioned as shown and the Attributes NAME and SPRE are displayed
in the positions shown below.
Used for outputting data to the Compipe module of the Comdace program. This is a user specific facility.
All of the default texts output on an isometric can be changed or removed using these forms.
This enables system commands to be executed either before or after Isodraw processes the intermediate
transfer file.
Change highlighting represents changed items on a drawing in a different colour. Change Highlighting enables
you to set standards for how changed items on drawings will be represented. By default, Change Highlighting
is OFF. If set to be ON, all changed components complying with the defined change highlighting rules, will be
shown in the specified highlight colour.
Create a new Isometric Option file, modify the Material list position it on the right hand side, change
the text size to 3mm and code length to 12 characters.
Using the Plot file provided attach it to a suitable design item, and produce an Isometric containing a
Detail Plot.
Set Change Highlighting, modify a suitable pipe and check that Change Highlighting is shown.
This chapter explains how to set up Isodraft Symbol Libraries (ISOLB) containing the Isometric Symbol
Templates (ISOTM). This allows the Administrator to create and modify Isometric Symbol Keys.
Symbol keys are used in Isodraft to represent piping symbols on the isometric plot. Some examples are:
Symbol Key Reference Index of the AVEVA E3D Help describes which Isodraft Symbols can be
customised.
To be able to create or modify Isometric Symbol Libraries the administrator will need to enter the Draw
Isometric Symbol Library application.
Pick Yes
Pick No
Alternatively Login to AVEVA E3D using the details provided by the trainer. They will typically be as shown
below:
Username: A.DRAWADMIN
Password: A
MDB: A-PIPING
To create a new isometric symbol library (ISOLB), navigate to the appropriate LIBY or create a new LIBY by
selecting the Create option from the Library button within Libraries group from the Admin tab. The Create
LIBY form is displayed.
The Library Attributes form is prompted. Click the Apply and Cancel buttons to close the form.
At the correct LIBY element, select the Create option from the Isodraft Symbol button within Libraries
group from the Admin tab to display the Create ISOLB form.
The Isodraft Symbol Library form will then be displayed. The ISOLB is effectively a drawing sheet
template, on which ISOTM’s are placed. The dimensions must be specified, either explicitly or by selecting
a standard sheet size.
The Isodraft Symbol Library can reference a backing sheet; select the required sheet, by using either the
Reference or Filename options.
The Isodraft Symbol Templates allows the Draw administrator to produce user-defined isometric symbols
using the Draw interface. The symbol definition is made up of two components, straights and markers.
Straights - can be solid for normal lines, dashed for insulation and chained for tracing.
Markers - can be defined for symbol arrive and leave points, tee points and spindle points.
Select Isodraft Symbol Template option from the New menu option and click Create button to display Create
ISO Symbol Template form.
The Symbol Template form is displayed and is used to define a new symbol or redefine an existing symbol.
Symbol Key Reference Index of the AVEVA E3D Help describes which Isodraft Symbols can be
customised.
Spindle Skeys of the AVEVA E3D Help describes the definition of Spindle symbols.
Scale changes the size of the symbol, without redefining the co-ordinates of the plotted shape (100% = full
size).
The Orientation option list has the following options:
Flow - specifies a fitting for which the flow direction is important, such as check valves.
Flange - specifies a fitting which begins with a flange and is preceded by a gasket.
Flow arrows on the symbol, otherwise they are suppressed (this is the default).
Dimensions (this is the default) will plot dimensions alongside the symbol.
Fill, the symbol will be filled; otherwise the symbol is not filled (default).
Insulation will show insulation on the symbol (default), otherwise insulation is not shown.
Tracing will show tracing on the symbol (default), otherwise tracing is not shown.
Isodraft Symbols are created using line primitives. Arrive and Leave points must be specified for the symbol.
Tee points are used to define the start position of off-line legs. The spindle position can also be specified.
As shown below, from the Status bar open up the Advanced Drafting Settings form.
In the Grid settings tab of this form, set a grid, (25mm x 25mm) and select the Grid On and Grid Snap On
check boxes.
Draw the valve shape and Add suitable arrive and leave points
Export the Isodraft Symbol by clicking the Export button within Isodraft Symbols
group from the Admin tab.
New - Displays a file browser to create a new file, into which the Isodraft
Symbols will be exported.
Highlight the symbol PCFL for export into the file and click the Add button. The contents of the file will be
displayed in the File Contents section panel of the form.
Use File > Close followed by the Cancel button to close the form.
Component Isodraft symbols are defined on the Detail Text Definition form in Paragon
The component symbol file is set on the Symbol Definition section of the Reports and Symbol File
Options form.
Symbols can be imported by selecting the Import button within Isodraft Symbols
group from the Admin tab.
The first symbol is positioned at the bottom left hand corner of the Sheet. Subsequent symbols are tabulated
across and up the page. When there is no space left on the Sheet, a new ISOLB is created.
Taking the symbol template example in the adjacent form and using Draw > Primitives to create the straights,
Draw could produce a 2D representation as follows:
