dvadesetog veka.
At the moment, European Union is considered to be the most powerful regional organization in the
world. Since 2013, EU has had 28 member states. It was established by means of Treaty on European
Union in 1993 under present name, although the many aspects and authorities of this organization date
back to the fifties.
The main areas on which the EU is based include a unifired market and customs, single currency (ratified
by 18 Member States) and common agricultural policies, as well and strategies on the environmental
protection. There are also other EU political activities that range from health and economic policies, to
foreign affairs and defense.
trenutku nalazi u fazi predpristupnih pregovora.
With regards to the certain institutions, documents and strategies, we may say that EU can be viewed as
an international organization, but also as a confederation or, we might even add, as a federation of
states. Current and future status of the European Union is the focus of much attention within the EU
instituions, but also among the states that aspire for membership in EU. One of them is Montenegro,
which at the moment is in the accession negotiation process.

istog.
European life, European standard and the benefits that the Union brings, are all things that a number of
people in Montenegro are not familiar with. It is the unfamiliar that provokes skepticism in people, so in
spite of the fact that the story about Europe and EU has started to unfold, but hasn’t reached its
conclusion, at least not in a sense in which this documentary aims to show it. In it we bring you the
stories from everyday lives of ordinary but hardworking people, the stories of us all, interwoven with the
European style and perception of life, stories about ordinary people who live and work in some of the
EU member states, and enjoy these benefits in many ways.

In order to familiarize our citizens with the benefits of EU membership, our trip inevitably began in
Slovenia, which was the first among the countries of the former Yugoslavia that was admitted to the
Union on May 1, 2004. Even in the Socialist Yugoslavia, Slovenia was considered to be the most
developed republic, so it came as no surprise when the country entered the system framed by EU
standards. The permeation of the European spirit with the traditional values and authentic Slovenian
culture, which undoubtedly resists change, is has given the citizens of Slovenia faith in their unwavering
national identity on the one hand, but also a belief in change, on the other. In order to present in best
way the benefits that this country that bears European values had – we are bringing you the story of
Frenchman Thomas Richard, who has been living and working in Slovenia for a long time - a conscious
choice of an ideal state to live in.
2
Thomas is the cinematographer working in camera department, born and raised in France. He traveled
to many countries of the world, some of which he worked in, some of which travelled traveled as a
tourist. His profession, and knowledge is such that Thomas could comfortably live in a country such as
France - without any fear for his job, a career, or other existential matters, because, in addition to his
immediate professional experience, he also has an educational diploma to prove this.
However, Thomas still decided to live in Slovenia, recognizing that quality of life is by no means poorer
than the life in France.
Tomas was engaged in business with the leading Slovenian film production: Studio Arkadena , which is
the leader of an independent film production in the Balkans, also the winner of many prestigious film
awards from Golden Bear in Berlin, the European Oscars, to the official nominations for the American
Academy Award, as well as numerous other awards, in Europe and around the world . Arkadena is one
of the most important co-production partners among the countries of the former Yugoslavia. This
renowned family company recognized Thomas's qualities, and this is how their cooperation and
Thomas's life in Slovenia started.
In addition, Thomas is very happy because his life and his job are progressing simultaneously in several
cities in Slovenia, which allows for him to enjoy the mobility and flexibility that was offered.
O tome vjerno svjedoči i njegov izbor države u kojoj živi i radi.
As someone who has spent many years in Slovenia, Thomas has a clear picture of the benefits that the
entry of Slovenia into the European Union brought. His experience tells us more about the progress of
countries such as Slovenia, thanks to many benefits of being member state EU. His choice of a country
he decided to settle is a testimony to that.
3
snaga jedne novoprimljene zemlje odlazi u druge članice EU. Govorimo o zanimljivom primjeru
ratifikacije).
Thomas's example proves that the prejudice that all significant professional labor force of a newly
admitted to EU, moves to other EU countries, is evidently incorrect. We are taking an interesting
example of mobility in the opposite direction - from France to Slovenia, a country that has proven its
standards by entering the EU, which can be seen in the immediate examples of the lives of ordinary
people.
obije gore spomenute države, Tomas ima toplinu doma, osjećaj privrženosti i pripadnosti .
Today, Tomas has two families: the one that he created in Slovenia, and the one where he was born -
France. In both the above-mentioned countries, Tomas has the warmth of home, a sense of attachment
and belonging.
Thomas, who settled well in Slovenia, is seen as a cheerful guy, and is considered as one of the
people, and he was also given nickname –Tomo, while enjoying the life, doing a job he loves,
and planning to travel the rest of the former Yugoslavia.

In order to show the interaction between tradition and change, we decided to look for the next example
of the EU challenge outside of the city hustle and bustle, to see the ways of life outside of the urban
center of the Slovenian capital – Ljubljana. We chose another renowned family business Nairobe inn, in
the town of Trzin.
4
Cjelokupni ambijent, u kojem vas,
čim zakoračite, uz gostoprimstvo - opije miris upravo pečenog domaćeg hljeba, svježe i ukusne hrane, te
najboljeg vina - odiše viševjekovnom slovenskom tradicijom i kulturom. Kako i ne bi – Narobe je član
udruženja Stoletnih gostilnica Slovenije - renomiranog udruženja ugostiteljskih objekata postojanja I
trajanja od jednog vijeka I više, strogih esnafskih pravila, kojima su osnova: prirodni I ekološki proizvodi.
In the 500-year-old house, located on a large estate in the central part of town Trzin, we find this
decades-old family business, famous for its hospitality. The overall ambiance, hospitality, mixed with the
smell of just baked homemade bread, fresh and tasty food and the best wine - redolent of many
centuries of Slavic tradition and culture. An how could this not be, since Narobe has been a member of
“Centuries-old Slovenian inn - renowned restaurants association”, with strict rules and regulation, based
on natural and organic products.
veoma popularan u Sloveniji i okruženju.
For decades Breznik family was committed to dealing with the family business, and not giving up on
their distinctive hospitality- preparing food in accordance with the tradition which is 150 years old, with
the strict codex of homemade organic food and quality products without added preservatives, in a rustic
style that is very popular in Slovenia, and in the region as well. Their menu includes a large selection of
dishes that have brought recognition and popularity to the inn.
In addition to all, there is also a tried the recipe for creating the atmosphere - serving the best sweets
and spirits.
Ovaj ugostiteljski objekat – načinom svoje djelatnosti – ruši još jednu značajnu predrasudu o EU i
smanjenju proizvodnje domaće hrane u odnosu na unificiranu hranu supermarketa i megamarketa.
Dakle, nisu, naizgled plasticifirani, identični komadi voća i povrća jedino što možete naći unutar zemalja
Evropske unije, naprotiv:
With all their activities, this restaurant has broken yet another prejudice about EU and a reduction trend
in domestic food production, in relation to the unified food industries, supermarkets and megastores.
Therefore, it is not only that apparently plasticized, identical pieces of fruits and vegetables are found in
the EU countries, on the contrary:
5
popularizaciji konzervirane hrane.
This hardworking and generous family, that made our stay in Narobe the most pleasant experience,
breaks the prejudice of a decreasing trend domestic and traditional food production in the EU, as well as
the myth of the popularization of canned foods. Nowadays, when Slovenia is being visited by many
tourists from around the Europe, the efforts of Breznik family are becoming more appreciated, and it
serves as an important example, a symbol and proof that the change can occur without obeying to it.
This family business, based on local specialties and rustic ambience tells in the best way the story of
their ancestors, based on family values, healthy food and hospitable attitude, and has been on a
constant rise since they have enjoyed the benefits of EU.
zadovoljstvo. Stariji članovi porodice pamte i ugledne goste iz minulih vremena, od maršala Tita preko
čitavog državnog vrha Jugoslavije I tadašnje Slovenije.
komentar.
Their frequent guests, along with the citizens of Trzin, are many prominent citizens of Slovenia, and the
entire Balkans : athletes, artists, statesmen, ambassadors , businessmen ... Everyone who visits them
once, return again to the mutual satisfaction . Older family members remember distinguished guests
from the past, from Marshal Tito over to the entire national leadership of the former Yugoslavia and
Slovenia .
Among the prominent businessmen of the area, we recognized our countryman , Mr. Vojin Gardašević ,
who lives and works in Slovenia, and we asked him to tell us from his point of view about life in
Slovenia.
Zato: uzdravlje!
In Montenegro, there is a significant number of producers of traditional products (milk, cheese ,
6
meat products and wines and spirits), which in a certain way, without compelling arguments on
the issue, have fear of finding the place for their family capacities in the sea of European
manufacturers. This unfounded fear is the product of the above stereotypes. We believe that
hardworking family Breznik, by theirs example, is the best answer and encouragement for
Montenegrin producers of traditional products. Therefore: Cheers !

Godine, i postala 28 država članica.
With beautiful memories, we leave Slovenia by train, line Ljubljana - Belgrade, with the intention to
travel to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia- the youngest member of the European Union, to see how people
there are coping with, a relatively new role - that of EU citizens .
On Zagreb's main station, we have arrived according to the timetable, which is unusual for our
experience.
Croatia has joined the European Union on 1 July 2013, and became the 28th member state . Does it have
and what kind of impact on the lives of citizens of Croatia, we'll find out after we tell the story of our
two interlocutors, with whom we will meet in Zagreb.
First among them is Dominik Krnjak :
... A young musician, born in Austria, but of Croatian nationality. At one point, his family made the
decision to go back to Croatia, where then - Dominic's mother participated in the opening of its Croatian
subsidiary of her Austrian company .
Muzika
7
je Dominikov život i , kako on kaže govori mnoge jezike.
One part of his education - Dominik gained in Austria and the other, with the Austrian passport - in
Slovenia , an EU member, where he graduated from college . Today, Dominik has his own band, which is
concert is active. Music is Dominics life, and, as he says, it speaks many languages . Now, after Croatian
accession to the European Union, borders do not hamper his engagement in music, it allows him smooth
journey for the sake of his job : he is now associated with many colleagues across Europe . Now , music
for people who deal with it in Croatia has another dimension, a dimension of freedom, and constant
expansion and sharing with others, without regard to geographic borders.
Osim ljubavi prema muzici, Dominik, sa velikom privrženoću i posvećenošću, uživa ulogu supruga i oca
dvoje djece.
Austrija u tom trenutku. Sada žive u Hrvatskoj, uživajući sve benefite koje Evropska unija pruža
građanima : Dominik aktivno uživa u muzici širom Evrope - ništa manje nego kada je živio u Austriji, a
njegova majka uspješno razvija svoj posao.
Besides the love of music, Dominik, with a large affection and dedication, enjoys the role of husband and
father of two children .
Dominik often remembers school discipline in Austria, from the time of his childhood. Before moving to
Zagreb , Dominik and his family – had concluded that Croatia offers more benefits for life, than Austria
at the time. Now living in Croatia , enjoying all the benefits that the European Union provides to the
citizens: Dominik actively enjoys music throughout Europe - nothing less than when he lived in Austria
and when his mother was successfully developing their businesses.
Our second interlocutor from the Croatia is Dario Domitrović, sound designer and lecturer at the
Institute Emi in Zagreb, which is considered the best school of sound production and audio engineering
in Croatia. What is important in connection with Dario, except undisputed ascent of his career over the
past few years, which in terms of time coincides with the period after the Croatian accession to the
8
European Union, is the fact that his company for recording and sound design - with success work on the
renowned international projects .
EU).
In fact, Dario is owner of the Embryo production, which is one of the leaders in the field of sound design,
music and film post-production, and his clients are often not only from various branches of work, but
also from different countries. A special advantage in Dario's work, since Croatia joined the EU, is the
support initiative in cooperation with the countries of the Balkans and Eastern Europe because -
countries which are not members of the EU are deprived of many benefits – they are not entitled to the
submission of their projects on incentive of EU funds. Given that Dario's firm is doing this job at a very
high level, and is recommended by significant references, Embryo production - thanks to their flexible
way of doing business, as well as the benefits of doing business in one of the member countries -
becomes a kind of bridge for the projects that are coming from outside EU. Therefore, Dario and his
company, take on the same projects in a cooperative and co-production way, so that quality projects,
which deserve to succeed, earn the right to participate in the competitions, which prevents them to the
participate because country from which the project comes is out of the EU. In this way, Embryo
production gives birth to a multitude of highly successful co-operations (for Euro Image, Media, Creative
europe ... and similar programs EU).
još jedan most – most uspješnog spajanja privrednog društva I edukacije, šireći dijapazon svoje
At the same time, a part of its capacities, Embryo production and Dario as a teacher put in the
educational function, for Emi institute, where professionals in the field of sound are educated. In this
way , the Embryo has become another bridge – bridge for the successful merging of the company and
educational training, expanding the range of their activities, but also setting itself as an example for the
importance of the process of education.
9
Među zagrebačkim saradnicima Embrio produkcije – jeste uspješni Podgoričanin: kompozitor Dušan
Maksimovski, koji koristeći kapacitete Embrio production-a uspješno razvija svoje međunarodne
Among Embryo production's Zagreb aides - is successful citizen of Podgorica (Montenegro) : composer
Dusan Maksimovski, who is, by using Embryo production capacities, successfully developing his
international art projects.
Dusan was raised in Podgorica, while he finished the secondary art school in Cetinje . He is living in
Croatia, where he is bulding a successful career in music for the last ten years.
As someone who grew up in Montenegro, and now lives within the EU - in Croatia , we asked Dusan
about his experience of Europe today, and how he would define European spirit .
Although part of this documentary reportage was filmed on the day of the terrorist attack at the
Brussels airport, Dušan , however is an optimist .
ranije.
In conversation with our interlocutors , we have pointed out in their concrete examples , in which
direction, and how changes flowed in their lives : how did they get the possibility of progress on a
business plan, how much the very quality of life, and therefore the peoples interpersonal relations, had
changed compared to before.

Details about the lives of the protagonists of our film, the challenges and difficulties that they overcame,
things that were once unattainable and impossible, without a doubt give to the citizens of Montenegro
the possibility of identification with our interlocutors, and insight into the possible positive changes -
changes that are not forcing us to forget who we are, but changes that give our identity a new
dimension shaped by the European spirit of the times in which we live.
Do susreta!
We believe that with this reportage brought little bit of European diversity, and in the best way pointed
out the advantages and benefits that citizens of the European Union have, which will, hopefully, we
realize in the near future. While Montenegro is on its path towards Europe, we are left to prepare for
changes to come and bring benefits to all of us. Till then!
