India's EV Readiness Challenges

India is in need of electric vehicles but is not ready for widespread electric vehicle adoption due to a lack of charging infrastructure and unreliable electricity access in rural areas. Additionally, most of India's electricity is produced through fossil fuels, so electric vehicles would not significantly reduce pollution unless cleaner energy production methods are implemented. Electric vehicles also present new safety risks compared to gas vehicles since they operate more quietly. Behavioral changes would be needed for safe electric vehicle use.

IS india ready for electric vehicles

India is in need of electric vehicles but it is not ready for electric vehicles
(EVs) due to following reasons:

 Lack of proper infrastructure for charging the vehicles.

 Before introducing them, government must make sure that they will be able
to meet the demand of electricity needed to charge them. In India, still
many rural areas are still not electrified. And even if they are electrified,
electricity is available only for 3–4 areas. In such a scenario, introduction of
EVs is a challenge
 It must also be ensure that the mechanism of production of electricity is
pollution free. India’s electricity production sector is dominated by fossil
fuels. 65 percentage of current capacity is dependent on thermal sources.
Therefore, use of EVs won’t help in reducing pollution unless and until
electricity is produced by some other means.
 Unlike motor vehicles EVs do not produce noise. So, it increases the
chances of accident. People won’t be able to hear the voice of vehicle behind
them and they need to be careful while taking turn. Thus a behavioural
change is required on the side of user. Refer to this article which explains
the need of behavioural change before using EVs. Electric cars and us
