Subject: Prescribed ations and 1ce for personnel in medical X-
With reference to the amendment to AERB Safety Code issued vide Ref: No.
/AERB/RSD/MDX/SC-Amendment/2012/14285 dated 26/11/2012, the qualifications and experience
for personnel in medical x-ray installations (Ref. Sections 5.1.1, 5.1.3 and 5.1.4) is prescribed as
under:
1) Radiological Safety Officer (RSO)
Minimum Qualifications and Experience required for designation of RSO for:
A) * Manufacturer/Supplier! Service Agencies of diagnostic x-ray equipment
iv) Degree/ Diploma in Electrical /Electronic /Biomedical /Mechanical Engineering
or in an associated discipline/Basic degree in Science with Physics as one of the
subject from a recognized University/Institution, and
v) __ Cettification of successful completion of training course on “Radiation Safety
and Quality Assurance in Diagnostic Radiology’ conducted by authorized
agencies, and
vi) A certification from the competent authority
Note: * The candidate with above qualifications can be nominated as RSO for all types of
Medical X-ray Installations.
B) Licence category Medical X-ray Installations
(Computed Tomography and Interventional Radiology facilities)
i) RadiologisURelated Medical Practitioner
or
Xray Technologist passed from a recognized institution with three years working
experience in the field of computed tomography/interventional radiology facility,
or
AERB approved Radiological Safety Officer at the institutions, where
radiotherapy or nuclear medicine facility is available, can be designated as RSO
of DR facility for that institution subject to the submission of undertaking for
ensuring radiation safety in DR facilities,
and
ii)__A certification from the competent authority

(General purpose diagnostic x-ray facilities)
Appropriate registrant shall be assigned the responsibilities of RSO subject to
furnishing “Undertaking” that he/she is familiar with the regulatory requirements and
radiation protection aspects of medical x-ray installation.
W) X-ray technologist:
Radiographer's /X-ray technologist's course (including in-field training in diagnostic
radiology) passed from a recognized institution/Board/University.
WM) Service Engineer:
iii) Degree/ Diploma in Electrical /Electronic /Biomedical /Mechanical engineering
or in an associated discipline/Basic degree in Science with Physics as one of the
subject from a recognized University/Institution, and
iv) Certification of successful completion of training course on “Radiation Safety
and Quality Assurance in Diagnostic Radiology" conducted by authorized
agencies.
