Summer 2019

Greetings Parents:

I want to extend to you my warmest welcome to First Grade! My name is Mrs. Leslie Day and I will
be your child’s First Grade Teacher this year. This will be my tenth year teaching at East Oakview
and I look forward to spending it with your child!

I have lived in the Grand Rapids area for twenty-five years and currently reside with my family in
Rockford. My husband and I have four boys and three lazy cats. I enjoy spending time reading,
running, biking, working in my flower garden and yard.

These are just a few things we will be working on this year:

Language Arts - We will be concentrating on building our reading skills and building upon the skills
they learned in kindergarten. Our writing will consist of personal narratives, informational and
opinion pieces.
Mathematics – Counting to 120, Number identification beyond 20, Number writing, Telling time,
Non-standard measurement, Adding two digit numbers, Word/Story problems, Place Value,
Fractions, Plus ten and minus ten, Missing numbers in equations, Equal and non-equal equations,
Counting on from a number, and adding and subtracting.
Social Studies – We will be expanding our knowledge about Living and Working Together in Families
and Schools, Mapping, Cultures and Diversity, Environmental Adaptations, Rules and Citizenship,
National Symbols, Economics (JA), and Public Issues
Science – We will be learning about Space Systems, Plants and Animals, and Sound and Light Waves.

We have lots to learn and I cannot wait to begin!

School hours: 8:14 -3:16.
