INTRODUCTION

 Good morning. Let us introduce ourselves. My name is…

 In this presentation, we’d like to talk about kinds of holidays.
 We are going to divide this presentation into four main sections.
o Firstly we will differentiate between the different types of holidays and what are the
steps we need to follow when we travel independently.
o Secondly, we will deal with the advantages and disadvantages of Package Holidays
and Independent Holidays.
o Thirdly, we will consider the benefits and drawbacks of staying in a hotel and going
camping.
o Finally, we are going to consider budget, accommodation and facilities of three
different kinds of holidays.
 If you have any questions, we’ll be glad to answer them at the end. And we encourage you
to take down notes.

PITFALL

STAYING IN A HOTEL

Advantages

 Accessible prices
 Staff available at all times
 Welcoming environment

Disadvantages

 End up paying additional costs

 Poor hotel service
 Rude behaviour

1 This depends on each person and their incomes, but people are able to find the most
convenient option for them. However, it is possible that they find themselves having to pay extra
money for the use of the internet, or the air conditioner, because it was not included in the
initial price.

2 and 3 The staff is available at all times of the day or night to provide necessary information to
help holidaymakers during their stay. Also, they make you feel welcomed, relaxed and
comfortable. Their beds are made, they have meals served and basically everything done for
them.

But, it is true that they could be having a rough day and end up treating you badly. The service
can be poor and slowly. Or they could not fulfil your expectations. For example, rooms checked
could be carried out even if you have left a ‘do not disturb’ sign on the door

Advantages

 Toiletries
 Conveniently located
 WiFi available in all rooms
Disadvantages

 Products in bad conditions

 Not conveniently located
 WiFi available only in public areas

1 Toiletries such as towels, shampoo. They may leave a chocolate in the pillows.

2 Conveniently located near major transport links (motorways, train stations and airports). But
it is not always the case.

Advantages

 Meals served
 Relaxing
 Lift/Elevator

Disadvantages

 Set mealtimes / Problems with the food

 Noisy guests
 Only stairs

1 Set mealtimes, bound by the opening times of the bar and restaurant (too salty, overcooked,
spoiled)

2 The walls can be so thin that you might be continually disturbed by noise from other guests.
Children often unpopular

HAVING LOOKED AT HOTELS, I’D NOW LIKE TO MOVE ON TO CAMPING

CAMPING

Advantages

 Very cheap
 Wildlife and adventure
 Get away from the routine

Disadvantages

 Expensive equipment
 Dangerous / Bad weather
 Planning

1 But expensive equipment. You need a tent (Good quality, waterproof tent), First Aid Kit,
sleeping bags, lighting, clothes, food.

2 Adventure, seeing wildlife. Bugs, bites. Bad weather (too cold, hot or rainy). Getting sun burnt.
May wake up soaking wet because tent is leaking.
3 In fact, it helps relieve stress (get away from work or school) No traffic Planning, which isn’t
relaxing. Planning everything takes a lot of time Free to come and go when you like Can eat
when you want / You don’t follow a schedule. Can spend half your holiday buying and preparing
food

Advantages

 Good for families, especially children

 Plenty of activities
 No internet connection

Disadvantages

 Children might get lost

 Boring for some people
 No internet connection

1 Fun for children and families. Kids get lost

2 Hiking, sight seeing (landscapes and animals), camp fires, ghost stories. Get bored easily.
Nothing much to do if you’re not adventurous Enjoying fresh air and clean air Learn to be self-
sufficient

3 The last thing I’d like to say… Little or no electricity

Spend time with your loved ones

My intention was to give you the necessary information to know what it means to choose one
of these options, and it should now be clear the benefits and drawbacks of each one.
