other musical devices, but Karaoke will always be remembered
as his greatest triumph (or bane to humankind, depending on
your point of view.)
Invention: Karaoke

Uses/Purposes: sing along with recorded music. It's a popular
Roberto del Rosario form of entertainment at restaurants.
Inventor’s Background: She was the first Asian (specifically
from the Philippines) student in Harvard’s School of medicine.
Countless young lives were saved by her invention and genius.
Invention: Medical Incubator

Uses/Purposes: an apparatus used to maintain environmental
Fe Del Mundo conditions suitable for a neonate (newborn baby).
Inventor’s Background: A Filipino project leader for NASA in
the buggy development: An underfunded and underappreciated
engineering success.
Invention: Moon Buggy
Date: 1968
Eduardo San Juan Uses/Purposes: a used by astronauts for surface exploration on
the Moon
Inventor’s Background: He was a Filipino inventor who sent
a sample to Eli Lilly, who promptly stole the idea and

Inventor’s Background: Discovered by Ancient Filipinos,
probably in Visayas. “Discovered” when Magellan landed.

Inventor’s Background: was a Filipino scientist best known
as the inventor of the videophone, the first two-way electronic
video communicator, in 1955.

receives both audio and video signals over telephone lines

Inventor’s Background: Many types were invented by
Diosdado Banatao, beginning with the world’s first 16-bit
chip in 1972, which he invented while working at
Commodore.
Invention: Computer Microchips
Date:1972
Uses/Purposes: Microchips are made for program logic
(logic or microprocessor chips) and for computer memory
Diosdado Banatao (memory or RAM chips).
Inventor’s Background: Dr. Rodolfo Aquino isolated nine
specific breeds of rice for the International Rice Research
Institute.

Invention: Jeepney
Date: 1945
Uses/Purposes: Immediate post-war, and the most common
form of transportation in the country today. A Filipino
invention, though born from necessity, ingenuity, and thrift.

Inventor’s Background: It was invented by Tantay Food and
Sauces after they discovered that their dried fish were turning
into liquid when stored with salt in earthen jars.

Filipinos love to use for almost every known dish in the
Philippines.

Uses/Purposes: This ink was very innovative in the past and

just quick drying, it was also water resistant, doesn’t clog the
Francisco Quisumbing
pen opening, doesn’t blot and won’t fade.
Inventor’s Background: Rolando dela Cruz developed a
formula that could easily remove deeply grown moles or warts
from the skin without leaving marks or hurting the patient
