Selective Lateral Re-Entry System

1) A selective lateral re-entry system allows operators to re-enter existing wellbores and complete short-radius laterals to access thin oil zones, improving production from mature fields with high water cuts. 2) The system uses a torque-locked packer and premilled window joint run on drillpipe to provide access from the main wellbore into a lateral section within 100 feet. 3) An isolation sleeve provides pressure integrity during completion operations and allows immediate access to the lateral once retrieved, enabling interventions like logging and acidizing to further optimize production.

Future Plans
To date, operations in these fields have
been successful, leading to plans to

WHIPSTOCK design will allow independent access
to two lateral sections of the well in
addition to the main bore. However,
the design will require that the tubing-

pass through an upper window and
locate in the lower window.

Summary
This system allows through-tubing
access to both the main and lateral sec-
tions of the wells, enabling the opera-
tor to meet operational and economi-
cal objectives. Operations in these
fields are encouraging the use of mul-
