1. Differentiate spirituality and religiosity.

Use Venn Diagram to point out 2 similarities and 2 differences

between spirituality and religiosity.
Spirituality refers to a subjective experience of a sacred dimension and the "deepest values and meanings
by which people live". It has something to do with the spirit, not as in ghosts, but as in the essence of being
human — soul or inner life.
Meanwhile, religiosity is characterized by excessive involvement in religious activities. Religiosity usually
entails extreme zeal outside of and beyond the norms of one’s faith. It is more than affection for religion; it is
affectation in religion. Religiosity usually reflects one’s individual beliefs more than those of the religious
organization itself. Another term for religiosity, though less common, is religiousness, “the state of being
superficially religious.”
Religiosity and spirituality have similarities as means or relationship channels between the human and the
Divine but both do not lead necessarily to the Divine. The value of religion gets its illumination to show us that
we are not perfect beings and we need a Savior. By against spirituality sheds light on the world of the mind
because the human being is not only material but also has a mind and a soul. We realize that the spiritual world
exists. It is for this reason that the essence of religion reconciles man belongs to the physical world with the spirit
world. Thus, spirituality is a bridge between these two worlds (Djamel, 2016).

2. Based on your definitions of Spirituality and Religiosity, assess yourself whether you are religious
or spiritual or both. Provide 3 concrete manifestations of your spirituality and/or religiosity.
After identifying the differences of spirituality and religiosity, I consider myself as someone more spiritual
than of being religious. I focus more on viewing human beings as someone inherently good and I am the type of
person who seeks the life’s essence not merely from what my religion teaches me but as well as on my subjective
experiences, reflection and understanding. Nonetheless, this does not mean that I have sacrificed the religious
aspect of myself I just honestly think that my religious self requires more improvement and commitment because
I am aware that I have not fulfilled my responsibilities as a Christian and I feel bad about it. Some examples of
my spirituality are the situations in which I always think that despite the negativities or inappropriate behaviors
that they show, they possess goodness in their hearts. Also, my actions are not just dictated by the religious
institutions and society but as well as my own beliefs and principles in life. Lastly, I am very much dedicated in
discovering my purpose in life to the extent that I usually assess if my decisions and actions can help me
understand such essence.

3. How does spirituality and/or religiosity shape and contribute one’s conception and understanding of
the self. Cite a very specific/concrete personal experience.
An individual’s spirituality and religiosity can greatly influence their own view of life. In my case, it enables
me to understand that every person’s life has its own purpose. Moreover, because we are trying to conform to
the religion and inner beliefs that we have, we tend to act within boundaries and limitations to avoid harming
other people or doing inappropriate actions. As we continue to live and develop, we become complete and
motivated because we believe that God is guiding and helping us. One concrete personal experience that shows
how spirituality and religiosity affects my life is the fact that I usually act in accordance with the religious teachings
of the church. Also, on my free time, I sometimes assessed my behaviors and actions of how sinful I am, and I
honestly feel bad for having insufficient effort to become a good Christian. This might look simple to other people,
but I consider it very significant because it simply signifies that I am well aware of God’s existence and I weigh
things out first based from my religious and personal beliefs before deciding.
