Digital Technology
Diplomatic Institution has to adopt technology due to its prevalence in the 21st
century. Diplomats use digital technology to discharge of their reporting, analytical and
problem-solving responsibilities, and in their efforts to connect digitally and collaborate with
diverse audiences and online communities abroad through public diplomacy. Public
diplomacy, generally means diplomacy practice whose recipient is the general population of
the host country, which the author argues that public diplomacy is best supported by great
digital technology. There are three ways in which digital technology could be beneficial: 1)
Efficiency, which means digital technology can capture scale economies, reach much larger
audiences, and capture a range of related benefits associated with the move from bricks to
clicks. 2) Effectiveness, which means foreign ministries can connect and communicate with
many actors. 3) Leverage, which means digital technology can maximize comparative
advantage in a competitive environment, the foreign ministry can use new media to play with
the strength of national image and reputation while minimizing constraints related to capacity
or security restrictions.
Because of the digital technology, information has traveled so fast and in such a way
that allowed for restrictive regulation to be ineffective, thus allowing information about
things in different localities to be global in a blink of an eye. This allowed for different
problem as well as opportunity to emerge within diplomacy. For example, both diplomats
and the foreign ministry are still wondering on the way in which solution could come
through, they struggle to adapted easily to the challenges of the globalization era, and in
many countries diplomacy faces protracted resources and performance deficits in an
increasingly competitive environment. Furthermore, it is needed to make relentless
innovation, have a sufficient resources, and make fundamental changes in the direction of
international that would benefit from more and better diplomacy.
