MOTOR DRIVE MA 9
General & Operating Manual

1.0. GENERAL

The function of the motor drive unit MA 9 (figs. 1 & 2)

is to drive the tap changer type V and type A, to the
selected operating position. It can be used for some
of the transformers with off-circuit tap changers
also.

The motor drive housing contains all mechanical and

electrical parts necessary for operating the tap
changer. The control follows the step by step principle
i.e. for operating the tap changer from one service
position to an adjacent one, the motor drive action is
initiated by a single control signal and is accomplished
without any possible interruption.

Overrunning beyond the end positions is prevented

by electrical and mechanical limits. Further, safety
and monitoring equipment facilitates the service.

For adapting the motor drive to any specific service

requirement it can be provided with supplementary
elements. Fig. 1

CAUTION
The motor drive unit is to be used only for
operating the associated tap changer, bearing the
same serial number.

Installation, electrical connections and putting in

service of the motor drive unit must be carried out
by qualified skilled personnel only, according to
these operating instructions.

Do not alter or modify the equipment without

consulting us.

Improper work during installation, electrical

connection and putting in service of the motor drive
may affect the trouble free operation of the motor Fig. 2
drive unit, tap changer and transformer.

This is ensured by setting the time of the selector/

7.0. MAINTENANCE
As the transmission gear and the ball bearing of
driving motor are supplied sufficiently with grease
regular maintenance is not necessary.
We recommend however occasional inspections
to focus on :
 The housing being waterproof.
 Function of heater.
The appearance of the equipment in the motor
drive unit.
We recommend to perform some test operations
during these inspections. Furthermore the function
of the limit switch should be checked.
