Enemy Prisoner of War Information

System (EPWIS) Request Instructions

Please note that EPWIS:


 Only includes records of enemy prisoners of war and detainees held by the United States,
United Kingdom, and French military forces during the 1991 Persian Gulf War.
 Records are almost all of men born between 1930 - 1979.
 DOES NOT include families nor individuals born after the 1980s.
 DOES NOT include records of refugees held at Rafha, Red Cross, United Nations, or
other refugee camps.
 DOES NOT contain International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) numbers.

A complete request must:


 Be in English
 Invoke the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) in the request
 Include a completed Department of Justice’s (DOJ) certification of identity form, with
signature
A request missing a Freedom of Information Act request and/or DOJ certificate of identity form
will not be processed.

In your request, you:


1. Must include full name (first, middle, last, family)
2. Must include any other names used at time of capture
3. Must include date of birth
4. Must include city and governorate of birth
5. If known, include Internment Serial Number (for example, US7IZ-999999EPW)
If you do not include items 1-4, we cannot conduct a thorough search.
