Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP), Manhattan, New York
ASTEP was conceived by Broadway Musical Director Mary-Mitchell Campbell and Juilliard students to transform the lives of youth using the
most powerful tool they had: their art. ASTEP connects performing and visual artists with youth from underserved communities in the U.S. and
around the world to awaken their imaginations, foster critical thinking, and help them break the cycle of poverty. ASTEP partners with
community organizations that serve vulnerable populations, including: Children affected by the justice system; immigration, refugee, or asylee
status; homelessness; HIV/AIDS; and systemic poverty amongst other issues.
• Recruited, interviewed, trained, and placed teaching artists for our global programming
• Designed and implemented a volunteer teaching artist training program
• Compiled evidence to support ASTEP’s Service Enterprise Certification
• Salesforce – Adding applications, updating contact profiles, and running reports to assess recruitment trends and involvement in
programming as well as outreach
• Traveled to Bangalore, India to teach Dance at Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project , teaching students in pre-k through 12th grade
• Trained teachers to work in alignment with NYC Department of Education standards – lesson planning and classroom management
• Designed social media strategy focusing on volunteer appreciation and continued outreach
