Jim Folland, Principal

Churubusco Jr-Sr High School
1 Eagle Drive
Churubusco, IN 46723

Dear Principal Folland:

Please accept this as my written letter of interest in the position for a full time Special Education
Paraprofessional – Smith Green Community Schools as posted on the Indeed website.

I hold an Associate in Arts degree from Massasoit Community College of Massachusetts and am
currently pursuing my Bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University majoring in Early Childhood
and Early Childhood Special Education. My goal is to obtain my Master’s degree.

I have been employed by the Carver Elementary School department as a Paraprofessional since June
2015, initially in an integrated pre-school classroom for three years, and presently, in a Kindergarten
classroom working with students who are visually impaired. Prior to this employment, I had been
an intern in multiple areas of the school throughout my senior year of high school, including serving
in the IMC (library) and in a first and second grade classroom. It was during this experience that I
discovered my desire to further my education and become a First Grade Special Education Teacher
for the visually impaired.

As you will see from my resume, I have many years of experience assisting the student(s) for
mainstreaming into regular school/work programs and implementing the student’s educational
program. I have worked with small groups of students to reinforce concepts initially introduced by
the teacher and maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about
students. I demonstrate patience and understanding in coping with demanding situations where a
child may be difficult to handle due to unusual behavior and/or severity of needs. The teachers that
I have worked under describe me as extremely cooperative, enthusiastic, and flexible. They describe
my relationship with children as outstanding in the areas of demonstrating an interest in the
children, control, and the children’s reaction to me.

This vast experience makes me an excellent candidate in meeting the needs of the Smith Green
Community Schools in assisting with the instructional needs of students with emotional disability
needs.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you. I am confident
that my many years of experience, skills, and abilities, will positively benefit the Smith Green
Community Schools.

Sincerely,

Faith J. Shanley
