Course Content: Chapters 2-8 in the text will be covered. A list of suggested homework problems

is given on the last page. These problems are for your benefit and will not be
graded. Solutions and difficulties with problems can be discussed during office

Examinations: The midterm examination will be given during the regular lecture hours.
Midterm Exam on Friday, February 13th will cover all material since the start of
the quarter.
Final Exam on Friday, March 20th during 10:30am – 12:30pm will be
comprehensive.
Students are responsible for all of the material contained in the textbook,
including any parts that may not be formally presented in lecture, unless explicitly
directed otherwise in lecture.
There will be no early, late, or make-up exams.
If you miss an exam, you must provide a written, official excuse.

Grades: Quizzes will be given during the first 25 minutes of the lectures on January 16 (Fri),
January 30 (Fri) and March 2(Mon). The quizzes will be graded and will count toward
24% of the course grade. The grade will be based upon the following distribution:

Midterm Exam 26%


Final Exam 50%
Quizzes 24% (8% x 3)

Cheating: Cheating or plagiarism will result in automatic failure of the respective assignment
and may result in dismissal/suspension from the class.
