Form-1 Project Proposal Template

This document contains a proposal for a final year project titled "S for secure" that involves developing an Android application using facial recognition for security purposes. The application would take a picture of a person's face in real time and compare it to faces stored in a database to determine if the person is authorized or not. The proposal outlines the objectives, features, implementation tools, and a basic architectural design for the project. It also provides information on the student team members and supervisor.

Final Year Project Proposal

For probably the first time in your undergraduate/graduate program, you are required to
defend a proposal of a larger project. In teams, you will be working on the common project
but individual team members will be required to take on responsibilities for specific work
for which each will be held accountable. Interaction, collaboration and assistance are
allowed and expected, but each person will receive an individual mark/grade for his/her
work performed in the project.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Design an android app using image processing in which we will use facial recognition. We compare the faces
of those whose data will be in our data bases or not .The persons whose data is present are allowed and the
person whose data is not present is not allowed or give an error and siren ring

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

An android application, using image processing for security purposes using face recognition, differentiating
between authorized and un authorized personals. The proposed system would have wide usage ranging from
universities to high end weapon facilities. It would provide us the way to secure the passage or access as
faces could not be impostures.

INTRODUCTION

An android application that will use camera to get a picture in real time, using image
processing it would compare that picture(face) with the ones in the database providing us a
good measure for the security and implementing the mechanism of controlled access.

COMPETITORS/COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

1. Bar code readers.

2. Biometric Scanners.
3. ID cards.
4. Pin Codes.

OBJECTIVES

1. To optimise the security.

2. To reduce the costs of security, using one system to allow access.
3. To reduce the components of a security mechanism.
MOTIVATION

Many facilities i.e. universities use ID cards to determine whether the user is allowed or not, this leads to
congestion during rush hours. The beauty of the “S for secure “is that it scans the face that is quick and
efficient. It solves congestion as well as the rush problems.
It is more secure as fake cards or pins could be faked but faces could not.

FEATURES OF PROJECT

1. Reading a face, getting the face from a picture in real time.

2. Sending the picture, sending the picture to the database.
3. Comparing the picture, comparing the faces one from the real time and one in the
database.
4. Adding profiles, adding the profiles in the database.
5. Taking the picture, taking the picture in real time.
6. Alarm, sounding alarms if the face is not recognized.
