Mote: Blocking the mittens will help to settle the cables and even out the slant of the zigzag cable, and
it can also allow the mittens to fit larger hands (or smaller hands more loosely)
To block the mirtens, wash them according to the yarn manufacturers washing instructions and then
press in a towel to remove exorss water. Lay the mittens on a blocking board or folded towel and gently
reshape them, tugging horizontally and vertically, as necessary, co increase their size. Resist the tempta-
sion to try on the mittens while they're still damp; doing so may stretch them out of shape.

Kerrie Allman designed her first knitted garment about five years ago and hasn't looked back since. When she
is not busy knitting for her children or teading (Harry Pottet, of course), she is busy being the owner of two
online stores (www-hipknits.co.uk and www.sewhip.co.uk), the editor of a free onfine knitting patterns magazine
(wwwemagknits.com), and the publisher of a quarterly print magazine (yarnforwardmagazine.co.uk)
Anne Bergeron started knitting at the tender age of nine. Her projects have come a long way from that frst pair
of slippers made of the Finest variegated actylic yarn the 1970s had to offer. She has made countless sweaters for
family and friends, and she even made some extra pocker money at university knitting sweaters that allowed her
fellow students to fend off the rigors of the Montreal winter. In her high school years, she discovered another
Tove, fantasy fiction, which made it inevitable that she would read and love the Harry Potter books as soon as
she became aware of them. This in turn led to her coveting a Quidditch sweater stich as the actors wore in the
first Harry Porter film. Since one was not available for sale, she had to suck up her disappointment and make
‘one of her own. Anne lives in the Montreal area with her husband, two children, and closets full of yarn scraps.
Heather Brack stayed up all night co finish knitting a Ravenclaw scarf to wear for the release of the Goblet of
Fine movie. She designs knit and felted accessories for people and pets from her home in Cleveland, and she is
the coauthor of Felt Frenzy (Interweave, 2007). She was pulled into the world of Harry Potter by her youngest
sister, Kimberly, whom she has escorted to many midnight book release parties. Heather enjoys both the books
and her knitting for the loving attention to detail they incorporate and the suspense of seeing things all come
together in the end. She is especially pleased that this book has finally made Kim (wow 18) express some inter-
est in her knitting designs.
Eileene Coscolluela first met Harry Potter through a copy of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets she

learned how to knit as an alternative to crose-stitching during a stint of unemployment in 2004, Currently,
