EM Spectrum

The document outlines the lesson plan for teaching students about the electromagnetic spectrum. The objectives are for students to learn the characteristics of different EM regions, order the regions by wavelength, and understand how waves can be helpful or harmful. The lesson includes discussing the definition of the EM spectrum, an activity to arrange picture cutouts of the regions, and questions about the relationships between wavelength, frequency, and energy. Students will then apply what they learned by discussing examples of beneficial and harmful waves, and the importance of these waves. For homework, students will research radio waves.

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
 determine the characteristics and properties of the different regions of the
EM spectrum such as wavelength, frequency and energy.
 determine the correct order of the EM regions by putting it in correct
positions.
 identify ways in which waves can be helpful or harmful
 appreciate the importance of these waves.

II. Learning Tasks

A. Subject Matter
Electromagnetic Spectrum.
Reference: Science learner’s material 10 pages 145-149
B. Skills
Remembering, analyzing, and understanding
C. Materials
Quiz notebook, powerpoint presentation, and picture cutouts

III. Preparation
 Greeting
 Prayer
 Checking of attendance
IV. Lesson recap
1. What is our lesson last meeting?
2. What is electromagnetic wave?
3. How electromagnetic waves form?
4. Give a source of electromagnetic waves.
V. Motivation
Before we start I have here a short game. You will guess what the word using
images are as a clue.

VI. Lesson proper:

 Based on our lesson what is our topic for today?
 Can someone define what electromagnetic spectrum is?
VII. Activity and discussion
I have here picture printouts of electromagnetic spectrum. I want you to
arrange them here on the board.
The students will answer these questions based on their activity and discuss
the answer:
1. How do we arrange the regions from left to right?
2. Which EM wave has the shortest wavelength? Longest wavelength?
3. Which EM wave has the smallest frequency? Highest frequency?
4. Which EM wave has the lowest energy? Greatest energy?
5. What is the relationship between energy and frequency?
6. What is the relationship between wavelength and frequency?

VIII. Generalization
 What are the regions of electromagnetic spectrum?
 Which EM wave has the smallest frequency? Highest frequency?
 Which EM wave has the shortest wavelength? Longest wavelength?
 What is the largest region in the spectrum?

IX. Application
1. Electromagnetic waves are everywhere. Give examples by which waves can be
beneficial or harmful.
2. How important these waves on our daily lives?
X. Evaluation
1-8 Arrange the electromagnetic waves by their wavelengths (smallest to largest)
9. What is the relationship between energy and frequency?
10. What is the relationship between wavelength and frequency?

XI. Assignment

Research or read topics about radio waves and answer the following question:
1. What is radio wave?
2. How radio waves transmit and receive?
3. What are the importance of radio waves?
