Traditional Games or Indigenous Games in the Philippines

(LARO NG LAHI)

1. Hilaan ng Lubid or Tug of War


is a sport that pits two teams against each other in a test of
strength: teams pull on opposite ends of a rope, with the goal
being to bring the rope a certain distance in one direction
against the force of the opposing team's pull.

2. Tumbang Preso
also known as tumba lata ("knock down the can") or bato lata
("hit the can [with a stone]"), is a traditional Filipino
children's game. It is usually played in backyards, parks, or in
streets when there is little vehicular traffic.
3. Patintero
is played on a rectangular grid drawn into the ground. The
rectangle is usually 5 to 6 m (16 to 20 ft) in length, and 4 m
(13 ft) wide. It is subdivided into four to six equal parts by
drawing a central lengthwise line and then one or two
crosswise lines.

4. Sungka
turn-based game, to win at Sungka the player's aim of the
game is to capture as many shells and place them into your
"ulo" (head). Sungkaan is placed horizontally between the
two players. Each player has seven houses in front of him
and the heads should be at the far ends to the left and right.
5. Hulihang Biik
Unahang paghuli sa biik

6. Bunong Braso
It is famous in Luzon as “Bunong Braso”, in Visayas as
“Ukbo” and in Mindanao as “Tumbahan”. “Bunong” literally
means wrestling while “Braso” means arm. In Visayas,
“UK” means “Arm Toppling” and “BO” means
“Maneuvering Tactics” while the Mindanao term
“tumbahan” stands for “toppling”.
