Early Teen Marriage

Early teen marriage has become more common in Indonesia, with 11% of girls marrying before age 15. Teenagers often get married due to accidental pregnancy, cultural pressures, or lack of education about marriage. However, teenagers are generally not mature enough for marriage and may miss out on important life experiences and education by marrying young. They also tend to be financially dependent on parents and less skilled in managing finances, making teen marriage more difficult especially if children are involved. Most teen marriages end in divorce within 10 years. Therefore, it is best for teenagers to wait until they are older and more established before getting married.

EARLY TEEN MARRIAGE

Early teen marriage may be prevented by improved our education. These days, the

percentage of teen marriage in Indonesia increased drastically and it become a trend for

teenagers to follow. Most of the case, the average age of teenagers who get married is between

15 and 18 years old. A recent survey showed that 11% of Indonesian women get married under

15 years old. Teenagers see the world in a different way than adults usually do. They only think

for short term without thinking about the consequences in the future. Due to various reasons,

such as accidental pregnancy, cultural conditions and other factors, teenage couples may make

a decision to get married. The only thing that can be blamed here is the lack of education about

marriage for teenagers. Marriage is one of the most important commitments to be made in life.

When a person marries someone, it should be a mature and responsible decision. It should be

a happy and fulfilling relationship filled with communication, love and respect. Marriage is

about compromise and understanding. Teenagers need to experience more in life before

becoming married. It is truly not worth it at all because they are missing out many phases of

life because of the marriage. People usually get married after they already have a job and a

separate place to live, but teenagers usually dependent on their parents in financial. Teenagers

are less skilled in operating their finances. The situation can get even more difficult if they have

a child. Marriage and parenthood is one of the reasons for teenagers not to graduate from high

school. It means that teenagers were not having a basic education and the necessary skills of

socialization and interaction. Most of teen marriages are ended up with divorce within 10 years.

Overall, the best way to deal with this problem is to wait until you are older, mature and more

established in life. Because getting married is not a game. As a stated fact, life is tough for

married teens. So it’s a wise decision to be taken in the end. After they are ready, teen marriages

can be as successful as other marriages.
