Song Sheet

The document is a song about the story of Jonah and the whale from the Hebrew Bible. It is told in a rhyming format over several verses. The song describes how Jonah tried to flee from God's command to go to Nineveh and warn the people, but ended up swallowed by a large fish. After crying out to God from inside the fish, Jonah was spit out and went to Nineveh as instructed. The song also references the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, when Jews celebrate in temporary huts called sukkahs.

Yonah Under e Sukkah

Yonah, yonah living in the whale Oh when the month of Tishrei comes
Tried to run away from G-d, but that was bound to fail you know its true
And the autumn sun beats down
G-d said to Yonah: take a trip to Ninaveh and shines upon you
And tell the wicked people to change their evil ways
But Yonah wasn’t ready for such responsibility Under the sukkah
He got on board a ship and he tried to run away Just wait for me
And we’ll spend Sukkot together
Yonah, yonah living in the whale at’s where we’ll be
Tried to run away from G-d, but that was bound to fail
Under the Sukkah (shake the lulav)
A storm began to blow, the sailors they were terrified Under the Sukkah (shake it with the etrog)
Yonah said i’m sorry it’s all because of me Under the Sukkah (we’ll celebrate)
I made G-d very angry, and now we’re in hot water Under the Sukkah (those veggies look great!)
And the only way to stop it is to throw me in the sea Under the Sukkah-(Sukkah!)

Yonah, yonah living in the whale Well they say the Jews were
Tried to run away from G-d, but that was bound to fail wandering in desert stride
ey were strong for forty years
A giant fish was waiting to swallow Mr. Yonah but then all they did was cry
He cried aloud to G-d for 3 whole days and 3 whole nights
en the whale spat him up and Yonah went to Ninaveh Under the sukkah
And told the Ninavinians, you’d better do whats right Just wait for me
And we’ll spend Sukkot together
Yonah, yonah living in the whale at’s where we’ll be
Tried to run away from G-d, but that was bound to fail
Under the Sukkah (shake the lulav)
e people all repented, but Yonah wasn’t satisfied Under the Sukkah (shake it with the etrog)
He said to G-d, you shouldn’t have forgiven everyone Under the Sukkah (we’ll celebrate)
So G-d taught him a lesson that each of us should follow Under the Sukkah (those veggies look great!)
We should look at ourselves, and deeds that we have done Under the Sukkah-(Sukkah!)
