The Great Gatsby Tic-Tac-Toe

In this choice board you will complete 3 activities. All students must do the middle square (5th
square). You must complete the activities in either a diagonal or horizontal line (Tic-Tac-Toe).
Make an “O” in the boxes that you will use to complete the three horizontal or diagonal line.
Some of these activities will make use internet resources such as online articles and websites.
The points for each activity vary. There are specific instructions for each activity and grading
guidelines. The three activities must total 20 points and any extra points will be extra credit and
will be distributed evenly in your most wanted areas in the class. There is additional extra credit
available in certain activities. Ask me if you have any questions.

 Write a Journal Entry
o 5 points possible
o You will write a journal entry addressing it as you are giving advice to any of the
characters in the novel. It needs to be at least one page long and few grammar
errors. This is an individual activity.
 Create a 2-3 minute advertisement
o 20 points possible
o This is a 2-3 group activity. You will do a 2-3 minute advertisement promoting
character development, theme, or symbols in the novel. Be creative. You will
need to turn in an outline for your advertisement to me in order to get it approved.
You will need to record your advertisement (you can do this with your phones)
and will be shown during class time.
 Make an Invitation Card
o 5 points possible
o This is an individual activity. You will need to create an account in Canva.com.
Once you create an account, you will need to create an invitation card for a
Gatsby’s party. You will need to include the basics an invitation card would have
such as date, time, location, etc. Also, it needs to include a short description of the
party, what type of people attend, why does Gatsby host those type of parties and
what characteristics of the 1920s contributed to the new source of wealth. Few
grammar errors.
 Read the article
o 10 points possible
o This is an individual activity. You will read the article (the link is in the square).
You will write a 2 paragraph reflection on the article (at least 1 page). Do you
agree or disagree? Why? After reading this article, how did your
opinion/comprehension about the character Jay Gatsby change or not change?
Why? There will be few grammar errors.
 Make a Poem
o 5 points possible
o This is an individual activity. Create a poem based on a character, symbol or
theme in the novel. You can chose the type of poem structure you want to use.
Extra credit available (3 points possible) if you recite your poem in front of the
class.
 Create 20 flashcards
o 10 points possible
o This is an individual activity. You will need to create an account in Quizlet and
create 20 flashcards. The 20 flashcards must have 5 characters of your chose (use
characters that you are not familiar with or still trying to analyze), 5 symbols, 5
themes and 5 of your choice. You will need to provide page number and a short
analysis for each card. You will share your card set to me.
 Create an art piece
o 10 points possible
o You will create an art piece with a shot explanation about it. The art piece can be
a canvas, poster board or a model, etc. Be creative. You will need to tell me your
idea for the art piece for approval.
 Write a short argumentative/persuasive essay
o 20 points possible
o This is an individual activity. You will write a short argumentative/persuasive
essay (at least 2 pages). It must have a thesis and a conclusion. Few grammar
errors and good sentence structure. There will be a 1:1 writing session with me. I
will see your progress and give you constructive feedback. This is to help you get
the full points.
 Create a 1-2 minute song
o 10 possible points (5 extra points for performing the song)
o You will create song lyrics about the novel. You will decide the focal point or
elements that will be included in your song lyrics. You will submit a rough draft
of the song to me to get approved. You will get extra credit (5 pts possible if you
perform the song in front of the class).
