COURSE DESCRIPTION
Managing human capital has always been a challenge for all business professionals, especially in the new economy. This course introduces students to HRM basic
concepts (such as HR recruitment and selection, training and development, job evaluation, performance management, career management), both from a
theoretical point of view and their practical applications in the real business settings. Hence, students are encouraged to actively take part in group assignments as
well as class discussions

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to:
1. Understand the basic concepts of Human Resource Management (HRM)
2. Identify and address problems in the implementation of HRM functions in organizations
3. Provide solutions to basic HRM problems by taking relevant factors into consideration
4. Present ideas to increase HRM effectiveness and efficiency
5. Consider legal and ethical issues in HRM

Quiz
There will be several quizzes during the course. Points from the quizzes will be counted in the final score.

Class Participation
All students are expected have read the assigned readings (listed in the Course Outline) before coming to class to be able to actively participate and contribute
to class discussions. These activities are essential for learning-by-doing process. Students’ participation will be evaluated based on their meaningful
contribution to the class.

Weekly Presentation
Students are divided into groups and each group will takes turn to present a case analysis related to the topic of the day. Case can be taken from internet,
magazines, newspapers, or any other sources. The other groups will participate in discussion that topic. The purpose of this assignment is to help students
learn and identify theories which are applied in a real business setting. Students are not required to submit paper.
The presentation is divided into two parts, as follows:
 Presentation of the analysis of the case study based on related topic as scheduled(presenting concepts is unnecessary)
 Questions and answers. Non-presenting students are required to participate in this session by addressing comments or questions to the presenting
groups.

Group Paper and Presentation Assignments

Each group is required to write a paper based on a real case and present their paper in front of class. The students are asked to conduct interview on how a
company applies Human Resources Management. Group is encouraged to discuss the content paper with FM. All final papers are submitted in week 14th.

The document is typed in 11 font sizes (Arial) and 1.5 spacing. It is prepared and marked according to the following format.

a. Background – introducing the company, explaining the reason why this organization is chosen and the limitation of the study (10%)
b. Problem statement and formulation that exist in their HRM practices (15%)
c. Analysis - it describes the application of the concepts for the selected company. Each group applies two concepts, which are the concept used in
weekly presentation and one additional concept from other session. (50%)
d. Summary and Recommendation - after analysing you are expected to summarize and provide your recommendation to reduce the impact in the
future.(20%)
e. References- including from internet or interview (5%)

These main Human Resources concepts will be discussed and presented in weeks 14 & 15. This exercise will give students a big picture of the application of
main Human Resource Management concepts, from theories to practice. By doing this students will also be able to identify related management functional
concepts in a real business setting and understand them in an integrated manner.
