According to the 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines, Article XI Section 1
states that “Public office is a public trust. Public officers and employees must, at all times,
be accountable to the people, serve them with utmost responsibility, integrity, loyalty, and
efficiency; act with patriotism and justice, and lead modest lives.”
This section would mean that all public officials and employees must follow the proper code
of conduct and ethical standards. All improper treatment and negligence on work duty must
be punishable by the law, from the highest position in the government agency to the lowest
position under the service of the state.
There are many issues regarding on the Philippine public offices vs public trust. To be
specific the issue on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity or Expression (SOGIE) bill,
supported by Senator Risa Hontiveros, Senator Imee Marcos, Senator Bong Go, Senator
Laila de Lima, Senator Franklin Drilon, Senator Dick Gordon, Senator Francis Pangilinan,
Senator Ralph Recto, Senator Miguel Zubiri, Senator Sonny Angara, Senator Nancy Binay,
Senator Grace Poe, Senator Cynthia Villar and Congressman/woman Geraldine Roman. They
are the people who trusted by the public to fill their duty, to serve the people with
maximum responsibility, grant the people equality and justice. But now, ‘coz of the SOGIE
bill, people have second thoughts on why they vote these senators elected last May 2019
election.
As a citizen and also a public servant of this country, I am totally opposed on passing SOGIE
bill, and I felt bad on the public servants I’ve voted last May 2019 election. These public
servants chose to focus on things that divert the attentions of the public to a situation that
doesn’t need urgent solution. I am annoyed every time there is a news about senators
pushing SOGIE bill, instead of finding solution on our local farmers’ problems.
SOGIE bill is all about “discrimination” of LGBT+, all about “paying them money” due to
certain emotional damages, giving them jobs even thou they lack credibility to avoid putting
them in a situation where they felt discriminated because they are members of LGBT+, and
giving Transwoman/Transgender rights in entering female restroom and they don’t want the
government to give them their own comfort rooms because they don’t need infrastructure
they want acceptance. These absurd problems they (LGBT+) raised and supported by a
public servants (senators) makes the Filipino embarrassed, irritated, and unsafe for the
women. I fear that SOGIE bill may be used to "stifle or violate" people's freedom of religion
and freedom to live out their faith. I am afraid that the generations after me will be
corrupted by their pseudo-idealism or belief. I’m petrified that religion and science will be
crooked by this selfish people.
I find other members of the LGBT+ community and the senators protecting them stubborn
and stupid, because they can’t see that our law already protecting them to ensure any
forms of discrimination namely:
Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees
Revised Penal Code of the Philippines
Senator Hontiveros, stated that “transwomen are women”, at this statement it implies that
not only religion was dishonored but also basic biology (science). This public servant
intended to confused the present and the next generations about male and female
reproductive system/the male and female unique qualities that separate each other. It
implies that this type of public servant does not shows patriotism, doesn’t give justice to the
evident solution of the problem and guaranteed unsafe lives for the Filipino. Senators who
supported the SOGIE bill give LGBT+ community a way to abuse their rights.
Bills are supposed to be studied, reviewed, and predicted the possible outcomes
(advantages/disadvantages) if implemented. It is not about pushing it because its famous,
it’s all about pointing out the benefits of the bill, the urgency, and if it’s pragmatic.
I’m very disappointed to the senators supporting SOGIE bill, ‘coz SOGIE bill is not essential
as current legislation "protecting citizens ' rights against discrimination" already exist. If all
problems should have a bill why not these: Because of their height there are victims of
discrimination, but do we need an “Anti-Short Stature Discrimination Act?” There are
discriminatory victims because they are fat, but do we need an “Anti-Obese Discrimination
Act?” Others were discriminated because they are poor, do we need an “Anti-Poor
Discrimination Act?” Others were discriminated due to low IQ, do we need an “Anti-Stupid
Discrimination Act?”
