• Teodoro is also a scholar of Hiligaynon Literature.

• He is presently the Secretary General of Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL or the
Writers Union of the Philippines.)
• He is a multi-awarded writer in Kinaray-a, Filipino, Hiligaynon, and English.
• He is also a member of the Alon Collective and the Tabig/Hubon Manunulat Antique.
• Among Teodoro's first distinctions were the Literature Grant of the Cultural Center of the
Philippines and Gawad Ka Amado in 1993 for his early attempts in Filipino poetry.
• His first full-length play in Filipino Unang Ulan ng Mayo (The First Rain of May) won 2nd Place at
the 1997 Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature.
• He also won at the 2002 Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Short Story in Hiligaynon with his
work ‘Anghel sang Capiz’ and in 2004 with the short story titled ‘Balaan’
• He won at the 2005 Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Short Story in Filipino with his work
entitled ‘Ang Santo Nino Na Walang Ulo’
• He won at the 2003 Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Essay in Filipino with his work entitled ‘
Maikling Talambuhay ng Isang Makatang Ipinaglihi sa Paa ng Manok at Sirena’
• He worked as a journalist for Bandillo ng Palawan-Edisyong Filipino in Puerto Princesa City, a
publication devoted to environmental issues in the province of Palawan.
• He became the founding coordinator of the Fray Luis de Leon Creative Writing Institute,
managing director of the University of San Agustin Publishing House and moderator of the
student publications.
• He also initiated the establishment of the annual San Agustin Writers Workshop to promote
creative writing in Western Visayas
• In 2004, he was recognized as one of the Outstanding Augustinians of the Century for his
lifetime achievement in culture and the arts.
• His poetry book Kung ang Tula ay Pwedeng Pambili ng Lalake (If Poems Could Buy Men) was
shortlisted for the 2006 Manila Critics Circle National Book Award.
• His essay collection Pagmumuni-muni at Pagtatalak ng Sirenang Nagpapanggap na
Prinsesa (Thoughts and Angry Ramblings of a Siren Pretending to be a Princess) won the Manila
Critics Circle National Book Award for creative non-fiction on 2008.
• He was also bestowed the Bugal kang Anitique (Pride of Antique) Award for Culture and the Arts
from the Antique Provincial Government.
• He is now considered to be the leading pioneer in Philippine gay literature and the most
published author in Kinaray-a to date.

on a journey to find the mysterious woman.
• The Solemn Lantern Maker (2009)
• The story is about a deaf-mute boy that made paper lanterns, who witnessed and saved
an American tourist from a shooting, which ended up as part of a terrorist conspiracy.

Parents: Esteban Bautista and Gloria Torres.
She graduated from Emilio Jacinto Elementary School in 1958
from Torres High School in 1962 being one of the brightest in her class.
journalism student at the Lyceum of the Philippines, but dropped out because she has always
wanted to be a writer and schoolwork was robbing her of precious time to pursue her dream.
Her first short story, Katugon ng Damdamin, was published in Liwayway Magazine and thus
started her writing career.
