• John Iremil Teodoro is from San Jose de Buenavista, Antique.


• Teodoro gained early recognition as a creative writer since his college years.
• He writes in four languages, namely English, Filipino, Hiligaynon and Kinaray-a.
• He obtained his bachelor's degree in biology from the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City.
• He has earned his master's degree in creative writing from the De La Salle University-
Manila with high distinction.
• He is an Associate Professor and the Graduate Program Coordinator at the Literature
Department in the College of Liberal Arts of De La Salle University.
• He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City, and a

• He won at the 2005 Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Short Story in Filipino with his work

• He won at the 2003 Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Essay in Filipino with his work entitled ‘
Maikling Talambuhay ng Isang Makatang Ipinaglihi sa Paa ng Manok at Sirena’
• He worked as a journalist for Bandillo ng Palawan-Edisyong Filipino in Puerto Princesa City, a
publication devoted to environmental issues in the province of Palawan.
• He became the founding coordinator of the Fray Luis de Leon Creative Writing Institute,
managing director of the University of San Agustin Publishing House and moderator of the
student publications.
• He also initiated the establishment of the annual San Agustin Writers Workshop to promote
creative writing in Western Visayas
• In 2004, he was recognized as one of the Outstanding Augustinians of the Century for his
lifetime achievement in culture and the arts.
• His poetry book Kung ang Tula ay Pwedeng Pambili ng Lalake (If Poems Could Buy Men) was
shortlisted for the 2006 Manila Critics Circle National Book Award.
• His essay collection Pagmumuni-muni at Pagtatalak ng Sirenang Nagpapanggap na
Prinsesa (Thoughts and Angry Ramblings of a Siren Pretending to be a Princess) won the Manila
Critics Circle National Book Award for creative non-fiction on 2008.
• He was also bestowed the Bugal kang Anitique (Pride of Antique) Award for Culture and the Arts
from the Antique Provincial Government.

sugal” presented in the National Komedya Fiesta at UP Diliman on February 15, 2008
 Since 2005, he is the festival director of Antique’s annual Binirayan Festival celebrated in the
third weekend of April, and the Karay-a Arts Festival, which he initiated in Antique in October
2007.

 His first recognition as a poet came in 1992 when he was awarded the CCP Literature Grant in
Kinaray-a poetry for his collection “Dandansoy: Mga Kanta kang Pagbiya kag iban pa nga
