Mohr Circle Stress Analysis

Here are the steps to solve this problem: 1. Construct the Mohr's circle through points A and B. 2. The pole of the circle gives the principal stresses and directions. The maximum and minimum principal stresses are 4 MPa and -4 MPa. 3. Draw a line making an angle of 30° with the horizontal axis through the pole. This line intersects the circle at (2, √12) MPa. 4. Using the sign convention, the normal stress on the 30° inclined plane is 2 MPa (compressive) and the shear stress is √12 MPa. 5. The maximum shear stress occurs on a plane making 45° with the 1

Mohr-Circle: find the pole
The point on the Mohr
circle called the POLE or
Origin of Planes has a
special property:

Any straight line drawn

𝜎1
through the POLE will
𝜎2
intersect the Mohr circle at a
point which represents the
𝜎2 state of stress on a plan
inclined at the same
𝜎1 orientation in space as the
line.
