2 CA Solution Overview
This section describes the carrier aggregation (CA) solution and its core values.
With the rapid development of networks, the 5G microwave transmission era is upon us. The
rapid growth of bandwidth poses new requirements and challenges for microwave.
l The currently mainstream 28 MHz bandwidth cannot meet the ever-increasing
bandwidth requirements.
l Continuous large bandwidth such as 56 MHz, 112 MHz, or 224 MHz is difficult to
obtain and may cause more network interference.
l Combining discontinuous spectrums requires an independent transceiver system to be
connected in combination mode. This causes a lot of problems, such as complex
configurations, more ODU hardware, more IF cables, large tower space usage, and high
maintenance costs.
CA can aggregate multiple dispersed channels to provide a larger logical bandwidth,
addressing large-capacity microwave transmission for future 5G networks. CA that aggregates
n channels is called nCA configuration. For example, 2CA configuration means that two
channels are aggregated into one channel. 2CA configuration is equivalent to 2+0
configuration.
Figure 2-1 CA
The traditional N+0 configuration requires N ODUs for link transmission. To perform an
expansion, new hardware must be added, such as IF boards, ODUs, hybrid couplers, and
antennas. When the XMC-5D ODU is used for CA capacity expansion, hardware and
maintenance costs are reduced, installation is simplified, and deployment efficiency is
improved. CA technology can also be used with spectral efficiency technologies such as
XPIC and MIMO to provide larger-bandwidth solutions, for example, CA+MIMO and CA
+XPIC.
In Huawei's latest ISM8+XMC-5D dual-channel ODU solution, each channel supports 2CA
and the sum of aggregated spectrums can be up to 112 MHz. The total dual-channel capacity
is expected to reach about 2.5 Gbit/s.

3.7 Planning Guidelines
When planning CA, comply with the corresponding principles.
3.1 Principles
This section describes basic principles of CA.
The 2CA transmit end is used as an example to describe basic principles of CA.
1. Service signals are allocated to two channels of the modem unit through the multiplexing
unit and then modulated into two channels of digital signals.
2. Digital signals are converted into IF signals through the IF unit and then combined into
one channel of IF signal through the IF combination unit.
3. The combined IF signal is sent to the RF unit.
4. The RF unit divides the received one-channel IF signal into two channels of IF signals
and sends them to two transmit units separately.
5. Two channels of carriers are converted into the required frequency intervals and then
combined into one channel of signal through the RF aggregation unit.
The bandwidth, modulation scheme, transmit power, and T/R spacing must be set to the same values for
CA subcarriers.
l The bandwidth, modulation scheme, transmit power, and T/R spacing must be set to the same values
for CA subcarriers.
l When cascading CA is configured, the following two scenarios are possible:
l When the cascading communication is normal, you only need to configure CA on any NE and
the other NE automatically synchronizes with the CA configuration.
l When the cascading communication is interrupted (for example, because the cascading cable is
removed), if CA has been configured on both the master and slave NEs or only the master NE,
you need to restore the cascading communication recovers (for example, by reconnecting the
cascading cable) and initiate configuration synchronization on the master NE.

3.4 Availability
This section describes the types of boards and devices that support the CA feature.
Version Description
V100R0019C00 The RTN 950, RTN 950A, and RTN 980 support the following two
additional application scenarios:
l Inter-board XPIC + intra-board 2CA
l Inter-board XPIC + intra-board 2CA + (1+1) protection
Item Description
Item Description
Configuration The bandwidth, modulation scheme, transmit power, and T/R spacing
requirement must be set to the same values for CA subcarriers.
Working mode Each channel of CA supports the 2CA feature only when it works in
IS8 mode.
Cascade When RTN 905 2F cascading CA, fademargin tests and sweep tests
are not supported by slave members.
1+1 protection A port that has been configured for 1+1 protection cannot be used as a
member of a new CA group.
l The transmit power of members and T/R spacing in a CA group must be set to the same
value, and the frequency interval between two channels must not exceed 450 MHz.
l The modulation schemes (including AM) of members in a CA group must be the same.
The configured transmit power and maximum transmit power cannot exceed the full-
capacity maximum transmit power.
l The CA feature can be coupled with the PLA/EPLA/SDB/N+1/XPIC feature.
l When creating a CA group across boards, you need to use the 10GE CA interconnection
cable.
l When configuring a CA group, you are advised to apply for a module-level maintenance
window to perform operations on one channel of the XMC-5D ODU. Otherwise,
services on the other channel of the XMC-5D ODU may be affected.
l The TX Frequency, Rx Frequency, and T/R Spacing parameter settings of the primary/
secondary port must be consistent between a CA member and its peer end. The primary
port of the local end cannot be interconnected with the secondary port of the peer end.
4 Deployment Guide
This section describes how to commission and configure the CA solution when it is deployed.
This section uses the data configured on the RTN 950 as an example to implement the CA solution. The
configuration methods for other devices are similar.
NE1 and NE2 are RTN 950 NEs that are configured with intra-board XPIC+inter-board 2CA.
NE1 and NE2 use the same board configuration, as shown in Figure 4-4.
Data Preparation
Configuring l XPIC link information l When the CCDP is used, the XPIC IF
XPIC (shown in Figure 4-5) board must be configured and the
l Hybrid/AM attributes XPIC function must be enabled.
(shown in Table 4-4) l Ensure that the transmit frequency,
l Power and ATPC transmit power, T/R spacing, ATPC
information (shown in parameters (ATPC enabling and ATPC
Table 4-5) adjustment thresholds), channel
spacing, modulation scheme, and AM
parameters of links in the horizontal
and vertical polarization directions of
the XPIC workgroup are the same.
