Introduction 1231231231

This study examines the effects of feeding broiler chickens a diet containing roasted pigeonbean seed meal. Pigeonbean is a legume grown in Nigeria and other parts of Africa and Central America that is high in protein. The study will determine the impact of this non-conventional feedstuff on broiler growth rates, body weight, feed consumption, and economic return compared to standard commercial feeds. The experiment will be conducted on a farm in Kalinga Province, Philippines from January to February 2020. The results could help broiler farmers reduce feed costs by incorporating alternative, locally available ingredients.

INTRODUCTION

Back ground of the study

A broiler is any chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) that is bred and raised specifically

for meat production. Most commercial broiler reach slaughter weight between four and seven

weeks of age ,althrough slover weight breeds reach slaughter weight at approximately 14 weeks

of age. Typical broiler have white feathers and yellowwish skin.Broiler are usually kept at high

stocking densities which vary considerably between countries in europe range between about 22

to 42 kg/m or between about 11 to 25 birds per square meter. There is a reduction of feed intake

and reduced growth rate whenstocking density exceeds approximately 30 kg/m under deep litter

condition. The reduced growth rate is likely due to a reduced capacity to lose heat generate by

metabolism. Higher stocking densities are associated with increased dermatitis including food

pad lesions, breast blistersand soiled plumage. In a large-scale experiment with commercial

farms. It was shown that the managemaent conditions (litter quality, temperature and humidity)

were more inportant than stocking density.

Egg come from hens raised specifically to lay eggs, but chicken that are raised for

meat are called Broiler These chicken are typically white and are bred specifically for potimal

health and size to produce the consumer .

Broiler chicken are raised in large open structure called houses where they roam,

explore, eat, and commune with other chicken some (includingfree-range chicken) have varying

access to the outdoors based on farmer preference.

Broiler chicken arriveat the farm at the same time ,from the same hatchery to

maintain biosecurity on the farm.

Broiler production is one of the profitable enterprice raised in the country. The

team boiler is commonly used for chicken of either sex, raised for marketing, after six to eight

weeks old and weighing approximately 1.0 to 1.5 kilograms. It is a very nutritious and inportant

food supply of protein, which is needed by the human body. There is an uphill struggle in

meeting the demand for poultry meat because meat, which caused a protein gap in their diet.

Nowadays broiler producers are faced with problem on high cost feeds

contituting a total of 75% poutry production cost. To address this problem the broiler raiser must

posses the skills on how to mix their own feed ingredients without sacrificing the quality of the

ration of thei animals. It is then necessary to explore some measure that could contrubute to the

reduction of cost of feedstuff so that broiler production could be more productive and profitable

business enterprice our locally. The mixed ratio could be replaced by improved palatable and

nutritious home-mixed non-conventional feedstuff.

Importance of the study

Pigeonbean(PB), Cajanus cajan is plant that is cultivated for human food animals

feed. It exist as a wide range of cultivars, and their flexibility for use in animals rearing system

have made PB is grown widely in india and part of african and central america. The main

producers of PB in the world kenya, philippines and austrilia. Analysis has shown that PB

contains 17.9-24.3% crude protein (CP) in whole gain and, 21.1-28.1% in split seeds and high

protein. Genotype contains 32.5% optical level of utilization have been broiler performance and

may reduce daily feed cost.

Pigeon bean is one of the legume grown in Nigeria. It is an important pulse crop in the

middle belt of Nigeria and is amoderately yields legume(300-3000 kg per hectare) in native farm
where it serve as valuable soil improve and yields 5000-7000 kg per hectare under improved

cultivation for over 2-3 year period.

Likewise, pigeon bean seed are currently considered as a non-conventional feedstuff

in poultry and feeding and as a valuable protein feed resource. The chemical and proximate

composition of pigeon bean seed are affected by such factors as cultivar, growth condition, soil

and or geographical location.

Statement of the problem

This study will be the effect of broiler fed with troasted pigeonbean seed meal plus

other feedstuffs commonly used in poultry ration such: as Rice bran D-1, yellow cornmeal, copra

meal, fish meal, ipil-ipil leaf, salt, limestone, vitamin and antiobiotic.

Scope and limitation

This study is limited only on the effect of broiler fed with home mixed feed.

Specifically, on the body weight, gain in weight, feed comsumption, and return above feed cost of

the project.

Objectives of the study

This study is geared to:

1.Determine the effect of roaster pigeon bean seed meal on the growth of broiler.

2.Determine the effect of roasted pigeon bean meal on the body weight of the broiler diet.

3.Evaluate the economic return of feeding roasted pigeonbean seed meal in term of cost.
TIME and PLACE of the Study

The study will be conducted at the Barangay Bado dangwa Tabuk City, Kalinga Province

from Junuary 2020 to February 2020.

due to correct feeding management or loss of weight due poor feeding management practices.

Average the gain in weight- The increase in body weight of the expiremental broiler

during the study.
