SMC Flex and SMC-50 using DataLinks with 20-COMM-E.

SMC-50 will have different screens and parameters but all the concepts are the same.

NOTE: To use this Instruction you will need the following:

• AOP (Add on profile) installed in RSLogix 5000.


• SMC Flex module installed in your Project tree in RSLogix 5000.

1) Click on your the SMC Flex AOP in your project tree ( see screen Shot below)

2) Clink on the Change Button in the module General tab ( see screen shot below)

3) You should see module Definition( See screen shot below)
• Select Connection: “Parameters via DataLinks”
• Data Format: “Parameters”
• Check the DataLinks that you wish to use

4) After checking the DataLinks that you want to use, Select the dropdown menu for each
DataLinks and assign to a parameters of the SMC Flex. (see screen shot below)

Configuring the 20-Comm-E card

1) Open the SMC Flex AOP in your project tree, and click on the Drives tab (see the screen shot
below)

2) Clink on the Device Parameters ( see screen shot Above)


3) The device parameter’s (20-Comm-E) should open (see Screen shot below)

4) Change the following parmeter to match thw

: Parameter #23 DPI I/O Cfg – Enable each of the DataLinks being used.
Enter the following in Parameters 23 DPI I/O cfg.

Enter value of 1 = Command word, Feedback


Enter value of 3 = Command word, Feedback + DataLink A
Enter value of 7 = Command word, Feedback + DataLink A,B
Enter value of 15 = Command word, Feedback + DataLink A,B,C
Enter value of 31 = Command word, Feedback + DataLink A,B,C,D

Parameter #35 M-S Input – Enable each of the DataLinks being used.
Parameter #36 M-S Output – Enable each of the DataLinks being used

Example: If using the logic Status/command and Reference/Feedback you would enter 20 in
Parameter 35 and 36
5) Save the program and download to the processor.
6) GO online with your program.
7) On the SMC Flex AOP, click on the drives tab ( see screen shot below)

8) On the drive tab , click Connect to Drive( see screen shot below)

9) Now you should be on line with the drive: You the Connect to drive displays ( connect)( see
screen shot below).

10) In your project Tree, Clink on Controller Tags( see screen shot below)

11) Now you see the Controllers tags for the SMC Flex including the DataLinks that you set-up(
see screen shot blow)
