Why we need and why they make research in bamboo? Bamboo takes 3 years to
grow. Bamboo fabric is too soft to wear because bamboo itself has good quality and
many other benefits. Compared to cotton it is high moisture, prevent from insect and
the bamboo also as an antibacterial. There are 70% of fibre contains in bamboo. The
fibre that contains in bamboo can be used to make yarn. For example, Kapok tree fibre
has been widely used in the market today.

In today market, we only have fibre natural synthetic, which is regenerated and it
is in solid form. The regenerated bamboo is contained intense chemical and they did
the injection. The bamboo that people buy from the market is not good because the
process is not green. For example, our palm oil is not accepted in the European market
because our process is not green. The innovation in this new product development is
that the bamboo used for fabric or textile industry. There are 59 species of bamboo
have been recognized. The example for innovation, in mechanical part, they extract the
pineapple to get the fibre. This technology also can be applied for bamboo. They have
spinning technology and there are 13 projects for bamboo that they can recognize are
being developed in Pagoh. But for this time being, they still use polyester because it is
still in the development and a newbie product. They also have customized weaving
machine. Weaving is a textile production method which has three main steps such as
shedding, picking and beating.

The challenge for this project are such as how to remove or abandons the grows
bamboo, less export to other countries and less exploring in the fashion and textile
industry. The scenario in Malaysia is our textile can not beat China because we only
supply our resources for good brands such Nike, Victoria Secret and more. If Malaysia
can focus on bamboo, we might enter the Europe market. If we want to go huge in the
textile industry, we need to have a different process which is natural fibre production.
So it is our new potential in this industry. When we focus on textile industry
automatically we will explore for the plantations.

The textile industry is long-lasting industry because people will lways wear clothes
since it is human right. All Nike, Victoria Secret made in Malaysia are the only market
in America because of the high quality. But for Malaysia market, we only import the
product of clothing from Sri Lanka and Vietnam that have low quality in fabric. It is
classified as fast fashion which is can be good and also can be bad. The fast fashion is
that they produce a new fashion every month. For the young generation, fast fashion is
very cheap. It is fast to buy and also fast to throw because of their rapid changes. All
the cost of the production of the product is too cheap. For this fast fashion, they usually
made in Bangladesh. They reduce a lot of things in their factory to reduce their cost. In
return, they had so many issues of collapse happened, people get abuse, people die,
high risk and they do not have the proper safety because of the low cost in everything.

The bamboo is going green production by produce natural fabric. For example,
they use extract pineapple to get fibre which is a natural resource from God. Men-made
fabric is not good such as polyester. It is cheaper but takes 200 years to decompose
compared to cotton and bamboo that only take 40 or 50 years to decompose. Natural
fabric is very good because of anything natural always good for the human body. It
does not have health issues for human. Bamboo is a natural antibiotic that prevents
users from bad smell. Baby clothing is expensive because it comes from natural fabric.
Bamboo good for head and hair. So it has good potential in hijab industry too. Bamboo
is also good for slimming and it is the most suitable slimming for women because it's
too comfortable to wear. So slimming market will comes next which mean a good
potential for that industry. For homeware, bamboo has 40% soft compared to cotton.
This is one of the good potentials for bamboo innovation to go huge. Malaysia has not
come out with their own product. For example, the Uniqlo already has its own
technology to produce their product. So in the future, if we can produce fabric made
from bamboo, people can recognize us as bamboo fabric producers in the clothing and
textile industry which can give impact to our economic growth.
