RESEARCH PROPOSAL
TOPIC - AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF THE ANGANWADI SCHEME WITH SPECIAL
REFERENCE TO GOTA AREA OF AHMEDABAD CITY.
INTRODUCTION
Anganwadi is a type of rural child care centre in India which was started by the Indian
Government in 1975 as part of the Integrated Child Development Services program to
combat child hunger and malnutrition. Anganwadi means "courtyard shelter" in Indian
language. An Anganwadi centre provides basic health care in a village. It is a part of the
Indian public health care system. Basic health care activities include nutrition, education and
supplementation, as well as pre-school activities. The Ministry of women and Child Care, has
laid down guidelines for the responsibilities of Anganwadi workers. These guidelines include
showing community support and active participation in executing this program, conducting
regular quick surveys of all families, organizing pre-school activities, providing health and
nutrition education to families, especially pregnant women, motivating families to adopt
family planning, educating parents about child growth and development, assisting in the
implementation and execution of Kishori Shakti Yojana, educating teenage girls and parents
by organizing social awareness programs, and identifying disabilities in children.
The issue is that there have been various rules formed to uplift the health and nutrition of the
Children and Women, but the major concern is whether the ground level implementation of
such rules is heeded or not. It can be seen in major Indian cities that though there are
stringent rules and regulations to eradicate/alleviate child hunger and malnutrition but the
implementation is not given in an effective and efficient manner. The issue is that not only
the government itself is solely responsible but also the public has some defined duty of
participation towards the alleviation of child hunger and malnutrition.
STATEMEMT OF PURPOSE
The purpose of the study is to critically analyse the situation of the implementation of
Anganwadi Scheme in Gota area of Ahmedabad, India. The researcher would suggest some
better implementation measures in rules for the effective execution of the Anganwadi
Scheme.
