34 Two semiconductor materials A and B shown in the figure are made by doping [3] 3
germanium crystal with arsenic and indium respectively. The two are joined end to
end and connected to a battery as shown.
(a)Will the junction be forward biased or reverse biased? Justify
(b)Sketch a V-I graph for this arrangement

35 Q9 (A) Derive the expression for balance condition in Wheat stone bridge. 5
(B) Resistance R =5Ω is connected to one of the gaps in a metre bridge, which uses a wire of length
1 m. An unknown resistance
X >5Ω is connected in the other gap as shown in the figure. The balance point is noticed at ‘l’ cm
from the positive end of the battery. On interchanging R and X, it was found that the balance point
further shifts by 20 cm away from end A. Neglecting the end correction, calculate the value of
unknown resistance X used.

Define the terms i) drift velocity ii) relaxation time.
A conductor of length L is connected to a DC source of e.m.f E. If this conductor is replaced by
another conductor of same material and same area of cross section but of length 3L, how
will the drift velocity change
36 . A series 𝐿𝐶𝑅 circuit is connected to an a.c. source having voltage 𝑉 = 𝑉0 𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝜔𝑡 . 5
Using phasor diagram, derive expressions for impedance, instantaneous current and its
phase relationship to the applied voltage. Also draw graphs of 𝑉 and 𝐼 versus 𝜔𝑡 for the
circuit.
(b) A 50 mH inductor, a capacitor of capacitance 20 µF and 10 Ω resistor are connected
in series across 220 V a.c. source of variable frequency. Calculate:
i. Current amplitude at resonance.
ii. Maximum power dissipation.
OR
(i) Explain with the help of a labelled diagram, the principle and working of an ac
generator and obtain expression for the emf generated in the coil.
(ii) Draw a schematic diagram showing the nature of the alternating emf generated by
the rotating coil in
the magnetic field during one cycle.

37 (a) Define a wave front. Using Huygens’s principle verify the law of reflection at a plane 5
surface.
(b) In Young’s double slit experiment the width of the fringes obtained with the
light of wavelength 6000Å is 2 mm. What will be the fringe width, if the entire
apparatus is immersed in a liquid of refractive index 1.33?
OR
Draw a labelled diagram for the formation of the image by an astronomical telescope
in the normal adjustment. Hence, derive the expression for the magnifying power of
the telescope.
You are given 3 lenses having powers of P1 = 6D, P2 = 3D and P3 = 12D. Which of
the two lenses do you select as an eyepiece and which as an objective to construct a
microscope? Why?
