This instruction manual covers the following radios.

2. INJURY FROM RADIO FREQUENCY TRANSMISSIONS
Do not operate your radio when anyone is touching the antenna, or when
‘anyone is standing within two to three feet of your antenna, to avoid the |
possibility of radio frequency bums or related physical injury.
3. DYNAMITE BLASTING CAPS
Dynamite blasting caps may explode by the operation of two-way radio
transmitters, if such operation occurs within 500 feet of the blasting caps

Interference with vehicular electronics - Electronic fuel injection systems, |
electronic antiskid braking systems, electronic cruise contro! systems, etc., |
‘are typical of the types of electronic devices which may be prone to |
malfunction due to the lack of protection from radio frequency energy which is
resent when transmitting. If the vehicle contains such equipment, consult the
dealer for the make of vehicle and enlist his aid in determining if such
electronic circuits will perform normally when the radio is transmitting.
 
 
 
 
 
NOTE
The following instructions are for use by your KENWOOD dealer; either an,
authorized KENWOOD service facility, or the factory only.
 
4-1. INSTALLATION EQUIPMENT
 
‘CAUTION
Be careful to avoid damaging some vital part of the vehicle when drilling
‘mounting holes. Always check to see how far the mounting screws will extend
' below the mounting surface before installing,
 
 
‘The following tools are required for installing this two-way radio.
© 1/4" or larger electric drill.
© Drills and circle cutters. (Sizes listed below.)
DRILL SIZES
42mm for 65X16 self-tapping screws.(Large}
32mm for $4X16 self-tapping screws.(Small)
4-2. PLANNING THE INSTALLATION
‘The accompanying illustrations should help you in planning your installation,
Before starting, plan your installation carefully so that it will be convenient for
the operator to use, protected from water damage, easy to service, and out of
the way of auto mechanics and passengers,4-3. POWER CABLE
The power cable consists of a fused red lead, a fused black lead, and a 2-pin
systems plug. To install the power cable, if an existing hole is conveniently
located for passage of the power cable through the ficewall, start with the plug
‘end of the cable at the radio and connect the two leads to the vehicle battery.
Drill the firewall as required and install a rubber grommet. Pass the power cable
leads into the engine compartment from the passenger compartment.
‘Connect the red fused Yead to the positive (-+) battery terminal or switched
Power source, and black lead to the negative (—) battery terminal. Always
locate the fuse as close to the battery as possible. Coil up the surplus cable and
secure it out of the way with the retaining strap provided. Be sure to leave some
slack in the cables going to the radio so that it may be pulled out for servicing
with the power applied
 
 
 
CAUTION
The transceiver operates in 12-volt negative ground system only! Always |
check the battery polarity and voltage of the4-4, INSTALLING THE RADIO
‘Mount the two-way radio so that the controls are within reach of the operator.
Use the mounting bracket as a template to locate the holes, and mount the
radio, Be sure to leave enough room at the rear of radio for cable connections.
Before attaching the radio in the mounting bracket, connect the antenna plug,
‘system plug and microphone.
WARNING
For passenger safety, mount the radio securely so that the unit will not break
| loose in the event of a collision. This is especially important in station wagons,
|vans and similar type installations where a loose radio could be extremely
| dangerous to the vehicle occupants.
 
4-5. MOBILE MICROPHONE
‘Mount the microphone where it will be within reach of the operator, but will not
interfere with safe operation of the vehicle. After mounting the microphone
hanger, connect the microphone plug to the microphone jack on the front of the
radio,5. OPERATION

Press and hold SCAN key then press this key when a channel is desired to
be skipped during scanning. The displayed channel is deleted so that the
channel is jumped during scanning. To release this, call the channel on
display and Press and hold SCAN key then press this key.

Press this switch to transmit, and speak into the microphone.
 
135-2, RECEIVE
‘Tum the power switch ON and turning the volume control clockwise. Next, turn
the CHANNEL selector to your regular operating channel. Normally, once you
have selected this channel, it will not be changed.
Finally, adjust the volume control for the desired listening levels.
NOTE
It your radio is programmed with OT or DGT signaling, there willbe virtually
no noise coming from the speaker, even at full volume setting. You will hear
transmissions being made by other radios IN YOUR SYSTEM ONLY.
Ityour radio is NOT PROGRAMMED with QT or DQT, you will hear ALL
TRANSMISSIONS being made by any stations using the channel, or no one is
using the channel, the radio will remain qui
 
 
 
To adjust the volume, press the monitor key, and allows you to hear all activity
‘on the channel. Set the volume control for a comfortable listening level, and
again press the monitor key, allowing itt return to the OFF position, for normal
operation. With the monitor Key in the OFF position, radios will ignore
transmissions from stations other than those in your system.
At the first reception of a message from your dispatcher or another vehicle in
your fleet, you may wish to meke @ minor adjustment of your volume contro.
5-2-1. Scan and PRIORITY Channel
Pressing the SCAN key starts scanning, When the scan stops at a channel
other than the priority channel, the signal alternately between the channel and
the priority channel
The priority channel may be selected by the channel selector knob or may be
fixed, as initially selected by your dealer during installation,
 
Taking the microphone ofthook reverts the radio to the priority channel (dealer
selectable to stay on the current channel for non-priority channel scan}.
5-2-2. DRS (Digital Recording System)
IF the optional DRS unit is mounted, pressing the REC key records the received
tones. Recording lasts for up to 32 seconds. Press the AUX key to play back
the recorded data,
145-2-3, Two Tone System
It your radio contains the optional two-tone unit, and the programmed two-tone
matches, the display shows CA, and a receiving tone is output from the
speaker. To reset, set the microphone ofthook, then onhook again. The Horn
Alert system is alternately set and canceled each time the AUX key is
depressed. When the system is on, HA appears on the LCD.
5-2-4, DTMF System
lf your radio contains the optional DTMF unit, and the programmed DTMF code
matches, the display shows CA, and an alert tone and a receiving tone are
output from the speaker.
‘The alert tone stops when the microphone is set ofthook. To reset, set the
microphone onhook again. The Hom Alert system is alternately set and
canceled each time the AUX key is depressed. When the system is on, HA
appears on the LCD,
5-3. TRANSMIT
Calling another station on your KENWOOD radio is very simple:
First, press the monitor key ON, and listen for a few seconds to make certain
the channel is not being used.
Now, hold the microphone about one and one half inches from your lips,
‘squeeze the PTT (Push-To-Talk) switch, and speak in your normal speaking
voice.
‘The TX indicator will display during transmission. When you are through
speaking, release the PTT switch, and you are automatically back in the receive
mode. When your conversation is completed, place the microphone back on its
hook.

1, Do not press REC key during play back.
2. To stop play back operation or recording operation, please be sure to
press AUX key.
