Councillor Jonathan Bishop is standing for election for the

Pontypridd constituency for Member of Parliament
It has been announced that Councillor Jonathan Bishop will be
standing for election on 12 December 2019 for Pontypridd. Asked
why he was standing, Cllr Bishop said: “The Brexit crisis has gone
on far too long. As someone with an LLM in European Union Law I
am best placed to ensure the referendum is implemented with
minimal disruption to our trading relationships.” Cllr Bishop said
about his experience, “I became a Freeman of Llantrisant in 2001.
have been a councillor in the Pontypridd constituency between
2003-4, 2008-12 and 2017 to present. My home is in Efail Isaf, but
I have also rented in Treforest and Pontyclun, as councillor of the
former and employee in the latter. I use the gym and swimming
pool at Llantrisant as well as the gym at Hawthorn.”
Councillor Jonathan Bishop was asked about his ties to CANDIDATE: Councillor Jonathan Bishop

Institute, the other founded the Llantrisant Workingmen's Club,” Davy Lamp, his Freeman of Llantrisant tie
Cllr Bishop said. “I was baptised and confirmed at Llantrisant and Llantwit Fardre Festival medal. Image:

Councillor Jonathan Bishop asked about his policies

affecting Pontypridd and wider Taf Ely communities
The NHS, policing and Brexit are likely to be the main battle grounds in the election. Councillor Jonathan Bishop was
asked about his policies on the NHS. “There should be a Wales-wide combined authority for the NHS with health and
social care merged so that there can be no buck-passing when it comes to patient health and wellbeing,” Cllr Bishop
said. “It should be required to have an ID card to access NHS services which should otherwise be free at the point of
need for British residents. The driving license could become Britain's ID card, even for people who cannot drive if no
licensing dates are placed on the back,” Cllr Bishop continued, adding: “I want all the council owened care homes in
Taf Ely to be kept open and support giving the homeless access to the same support asylum seekers have, including
food cards to help fund foodbanks.” Councillor Jonathan Bishop was also asked about his policies on policing. “I
believe every ward in Taf Ely should have two civil enforcement wardens with one trained to Special Constable level.
This would be more affordable and effective than having PCs and PCSOs,” he said. “The only constables should be
detective constables and they should work for the new National Crime Agency, which should become Britain's FBI.
Women rape victims should be offered the emergency contraceptive by specialist nurses and both men and women
victims should not be asked to answer questions they cannot remember the answers to.,” he continued, adding:
“Police and Crime Commissioners in Wales should be merged into a Wales-wide combined authority headed by a
London-like Police Commissioner experience in policing not politics, with access to law enforcement normally done
by local authorities and police constabularies.” Asked about Brexit, Cllr Bishop said, “I voted remain to keep workers
rights, but leave won so I would vote for the withdrawal agreement to start trade talks. My long-term policy is to
break the EU treaty up into smaller Council of Europe treaties, which would mean Britain could be part of the social
chapter, environmental and security frameworks and free movement of goods and services without having to be
part of free movement of people.”
Promoted by Councillor Jonathan Bishop of 109 Heol-y-Parc, Efail Isaf, CF37 9EG.
