Computer Assignment
Buying a Computer Project
Qazi Wahaj & Usama Farooq
Computers have evolved rapidly ever since World War II. I've yet to encounter anyone that is over
the age of 16 and living in our modern society that hasn't used some kind of computer, even if it's
just a simple calculator. So the question arises how to make money from this vastly used and
developed technology, in today’s Economic Recession. The increase in demand for computers has
led to different and various machines being produced to meet the consumer’s demand.
To select what is needed for your business setting is a tough decision with hefty expenditure
involved. Moreover the constraints like, would the current technology be feasible for the next
5years, would it pay its cost in due time etc, are to be taken into consideration.
My partner and I have decided to startup a gaming café, by the name of Hell Breakers, and with
keeping the budget of Rs. 1 million (1,000,000) in mind, here are the minimum requirement of the
equipment needed for the successful running of the café.
Sr No. Name Quantity Cost per Unit(Rs.) Total Cost (Rs.)
1 Dell Studio XPS 7100 (Desktop + Accessories) 10 60,000 600,000
2 Dell Server 1 74,000 74,000
3 ATI Radeon 9300+ (Graphic Card) 10 3,000 30,000
4 BenQ 17” LCD Monitors 10 10,000 100,000
5 Cisco Router + Hub 1 35,000 35,000
6 LAN Cable 100ft 15 1,500
7 Nayatel FTTP (Internet Connection) 1 26,500 26,500
8 Games 20 150 3,000
870,000
We have also rented a small workplace in the basement of City Plaza, I-8 Markaz, and have had the
fixtures and fitting installed, which amounted to a total cost of Rs. 100,000. This and the cost of the
equipment included we came to a sum of Rs. 970,000. With the thirty thousand extra, we decided to
add some spark to the café, which would attract more customers. We bought a fridge, which would
supply the gamers with refreshments, and a sofa set to stretch some legs.
The equipment which was selected, is sufficient enough to support the requirements of current
games, and as well as of those expected to be launched in near future.
Desktop which has been selected is a branded (Dell) and not a clone, so it has a manufacturer’s
warranty of 3years, also this machine has synchronized hardware so there are less chances of failure
or hardware performing inefficiently.
The machine comes with a built-in VGA card, which being useless also shares and burdens physical
memory (RAM). Thus, an additional VGA card (ATI Radeon) is purchased with every machine so that
the gamers can have a real-time game play experience.
Server is required for the bridging and monitoring of the other Desktops.
LCD monitors are bought as they are less strenuous on eyes, and also have a better response time,
than CRTs.
A connection from the most reliable and the only company providing fiber optic internet access has
been installed. A Hub and Router are required to connect all the desktops and the server together,
networking them and providing internet access. This is essential as the café will be mostly used for
multiplayer gaming, with the preference of online gaming and participation in online tournaments
etc, and also be used for browsing the web. A sufficient amount of LAN cable has also been
purchased for this matter.
Latest as well as classic multiplayer and popular single player games of different genre are purchased
and installed on each machine.
With the aim of providing the best possible gaming experience, the Hell Breakers Gaming Café was
launched with passion, on Friday the 12 th November 2010.
