SEATWORK 2 Answer

This document contains 3 surveying problems from a surveying lecture course. Problem 1 asks to compute the stadia interval factor of an instrument given a stadia intercept reading and computed horizontal distance. Problem 2 asks to determine the distance between two markers along a course by analyzing pacer counts between the markers. Problem 3 asks to compute the corrected length of the side of a square lot given that the measured tape was too short and the error in the computed area.

SEATWORK #2

ARS 220 – Surveying LEC

2 Semester, Academic Year 2019 – 2020
nd

Problem #1: [5 points]

A transit with a stadia constant equal to 0.30 is used to determine the horizontal
distance between point B and C, with a stadia intercept reading of 1.85m, the distance BC
is equal to 182.87m. Compute the stadia interval factor of the instrument.

Problem #2: [10 points]

In walking along a 75-m course, the pacer of a field party counted 43.50, 44.00, 43.50,
43.75, 44.50 and 43.25 strides. Then 105.50, 106.00 105.75 and 106.25 strides were
counted in walking from one marker to another established along a straight and level
course. Determine the distance between the two markers.
Problem #3: [10 points]
The sides of a square lot was measured with a 50m tape which is 0.04m too short.
The error in the computed area is 3.42m2. Compute the corrected length of the side of the
square lot.
