Productivity Applications
According to TechTarget.com “Productivity software is a category of application programs that
help users produce things such as documents, databases, graphs, worksheets, and presentations.

Many productivity applications are intended for business use. Examples of office productivity
software include word processors, database management systems (DBMS), and graphics
software and spread sheet applications. The definition of productivity software is sometimes
broadened to include any type of application that is used to help people do their jobs, including
collaboration and communication programs.

Employee productivity (sometimes referred to as workforce productivity) is an assessment of the

efficiency of a worker or group of workers. Productivity software increases efficiency by
facilitating people's tasks. For example, using a word processing application, such as Microsoft
Word, which yields digital files, makes the tasks of creating, editing, storing and sharing
documents much more efficient. Similarly, database management systems greatly simplify the
tasks of storing, retrieving and working with data while also enormously expanding the
capabilities of data manipulation and analysis.

Productivity software, like most types of applications, is increasingly available for mobile
devices. However, mobile productivity apps are generally for basic tasks like e-mail, note-taking
and calendar functions, rather than more substantial tasks, such as word processing.”

2. Graphics and Media Software

Graphics and Multimedia software allows professionals like Engineers, Architects, Publishers,
and Graphic Artist to design work that is intended for their own field of specialization. It
includes desktop publishing software, paint/image editing software, clip/art image gallery,
multimedia authoring tools, and others. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Computer-aided design
(CAD) software is a sophisticated type of application software that assists a professional user in
creating engineering, architectural and scientific design. Desktop Publishing Software It enables
professionals to create sophisticated documents that contain texts, graphics, and many colors.

and desktop publishers use paint software and image editing software to create and modify
graphic images such as those in DTP documents and web pages. Professional Photo Editing
Software is a type of image editing software that allows photographers, videographers,
engineers, scientists and other high- volume digital photo users to edit and customize digital
photographs. With professional photo editing software, users can retouch photos, crop images,
removed red-eye, change images shape, colour correct images, straighten images, remove or
rearrange objects in a photo and apply filters. Administration Software, these are the programs
that administrators at schools use to establish and strengthen record-keeping and exchanges of
information among various institutions and agencies.
Whilst, according to lifewire.com, “there are two main categories of graphics programs are pixel-
based image editors and vector-based image editors. In a nutshell, an image is either comprised
of a series of small dots (pixels) or a series of commands about how to draw an image (vectors).
You'll know the difference between pixel- and vector-based images by zooming on them. If they
zoom very close without appearing fuzzy and blotchy, you're working with a vector image.

Some of the categories of specialized tools for managing graphics include:

 Image Management Software

 Image Viewers
 Batch Processing Tools
 Web and Animation Software
 Diagramming Software

Some of the common things people use graphics software for include editing and sharing digital
photos, creating logos, drawing and modifying clip art, creating digital fine art, creating web
graphics, designing advertisements and product packaging, touching up scanned photos, and
drawing maps or other diagrams.

There are the unconventional uses as well, such as editing video in Photoshop or 3D drawing in
Illustrator.”
