2 INTRODUCTION
2.1 RESORT
• Any place or places with pleasant environment and atmosphere conductive
to comfort, healthful relaxation and rest, offering food, sleeping
accommodation and recreational facilities to the public for a fee.
• ELEMENTS OF A RESORT
1. Recreational facilities that draws guests to the facility.
2. Housing and Food & Beverage services that cater to people away from
home.
3. Activities to occupy guests during their stay.
2.2 ECO-RESORT/GREEN RESORT
An eco-resort offers a ‘tropical experience’ to visitors. Such a resort makes only a
minimum impact on the environment without compromising guests comfort and
safety. It can also be economically viable alternative to typical or air-conditioned
structures. The eco resort has to draw on and blend with local natural and cultural
environments by employing principles of environmentally sustainable design(ESD).
It must minimize use of energy through passive solar design and where additional
energy inputs are required, it should utilize the renewable resources of sun, water
and wind. It also has to make minimal impact on the environment by limiting
waste, emissions, pollution and other undesirable effects of its operation. In very
broad terms, the impact that the resort will make on the environment can derived
from solutions adopted for:
Energy and water supply
Discharge of waste and emissions
Construction technology and materials used in buildings and infrastructure,
and
Direct human impacts through daily activities on the site.

2.3 BACKGROUND
The concept of resorts originated in Nepal along with the promotion of the
tourism development. Resorts in Nepal have come a long way in a short period of
time. Nepal owes many resorts of different types. Despite the resorts sites of
Nepal are not of International lines, they more often cater to specific themes such
as Mountain viewing, Wildlife safaris, Village resorts and scenic panoramas.
Resort literally means a place whose purpose is to provide visitors recreation and
relaxation. Today, more function has been added to its utility like outdoors sports,
conference and exhibitions, a venue for physical fitness, hospitality units such as
guest rooms and cottages etc. Most of the resorts are also influenced of nearby
ethnic culture and architecture. The price of basic amenities such as food, lodging
and services available vary with the range of the local resorts.
Resort cannot be built in urban areas, there should be some special feature on
the location or on remote area with scenic view, in context of Nepal too has
required some specific location. Resort is concerned more in informal activities
than formal. The services system in resort should be efficient and sophisticated
and the entire area should be planned in aesthetic way.
ECO-Resorts in Nepal are being popular as a good business enterprise. On one
hand, this business is helping in improvement of economy level of the whole
country and the people of the same area. And on the hand our traditional culture,
skills architectural heritage, and spirit are being conserved, making the people
close to the nature.
Seeing present need resort should also cater all types of people, national and
international tourist and the locals. Nepal has a diverse geography, including
fertile plains, subalpine forested hills, and eight of the world’s ten tallest
mountains, including mount Everest, the highest point on the Earth. Nepal
contains a disproportionately large diversity of plants and animals, relative to its
size.

2.4 RATIONALE
2.5 FOR PLEASURE
Pleasure means to enjoy, relax and have satisfaction from the leisure time
that is acquired through spending the money. People coming for holiday,
trekking, mountaineering, rafting
and adventure are form of pleasure tourism.
2.6 FOR BUSINESS
People coming for pure official or business work falls in this category. But
we should note that,
These tourists also require proper accommodation, cuisine and facilities
along with pleasing hospitality. This may include diplomatic visits.
2.7 FOR MIX PURPOSES:
Some tourist may come for private business or official work, and extend
their stay to visit some of the important places around.
2.8 AIMS
To design an Eco resort not only for leisure but will offer a tourist a complete eco-
experience.
2.9 OBJECTIVES
The main objective of this proposal is-
Comfortable design which portrays an environment of leisure and
promotes interaction with nature.
Respond to climatic and energy consumption issues raised by present day
architecture through sustainable design.
Designing with the suitable perspective to the surrounding environment
and without the environmental disadvantages.
Locating the buildings with public spaces and common facilities for
encouraging social interaction.
Cost effective and functional design.

2.13 SCOPE
The scope of project is the eco resort with recreational facilities.
The project provides a lot of scope for site planning and landscaping.
The project provides an outlet to study the local architecture an exercise in the evolution of an
architectural vocabulary which takes the inspiration from the local and architecture, keeping in mind of
the climatic factors, behavioral pattern and user attitude.
It also provides the opportunity to study the local culture and heritage.
2.14 LIMITATION
There will be limited research and study on feasibility of project and detailed site suitability will not be
analyzed.
The project will not cover detail related to landscape design though research will have done according to
architectural requirement.
The project will not focus on constructional analysis of built structures of resorts, although structural
consultation will be made and it will not be sufficient.
2.15 SITE LOCATION
Tokha, Kathmandu
3 Conclusion
Resort is a service which is given to customers for their satisfaction. Thus, by
doing this proposal writing, I got chance to study and research got idea of making
the project fruitful.
