Grade 8 Lesson Plan (MIEOSIS)

This document provides a lesson plan for a biology class on cell division. The plan outlines the following: 1) Learning objectives which are to define meiosis, identify stages of meiosis, compare/contrast meiosis and mitosis, and state meiosis' importance. 2) The topic is cell division: mitosis. Activities include identifying mitosis phases and a group activity comparing mitosis and meiosis. 3) Assessment questions address mitosis steps and phases, number of daughter cells in mitosis, and the importance of mitosis. Students are also assigned questions on Gregor Mendel.

Third Grading – Grade 10

Date: February 26, 2020

Time: 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Grade&Section: GRADE 8 – OLMC

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the learning session, I can . . .
 define meiosis,
 identify and explain the different stages of meiosis,
 compare and contrast meiosis and mitosis; and
 state the importance of meiosis in plant and animal breeding.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

Topic: CELL DIVISION: MITOSIS
Lesson: MITOSIS
Competency: S8LT-IVd16, S8LT-IVe17
Reference:

Learning Materials: Visual aids, PowerPoint presentation, scotch tape, and board.

III. METHODOLOGY

A. Classroom Daily Routines:

a. Prayer
b. Setting-up learning environment
c. Greetings
d. Checking of Attendance

B. Review
Last Topic – Cell
Present pictures that the students will identify the different phases of mitosis.

C. Developmental Activities:
 Activity
 Activity No 1: “PINOY HENYO”
 Strategy/Approach: Group Activity
 Instruction: One representative from the group asks different questions to his/her
groupmates to be able to guess the correct word/title. The groupmates should answer,
“YES,” or “NO” or “MAYBE” only to the questions. The group that gives the correct title in a
minimal time would be the winning group.

Given words:
1. HUMAN
2. MALE
3. FEMALE
4. TWENTY-THREE
5. DAUGHTER
 Analysis
Process Questions:
 Have you enjoyed the game?
 What words were given in the game?
 Can you give a word from the game and explain it to the class?
 What do you think is our topic for today?
 Can you distinguish mitosis from meiosis?
 How will you define meiosis?

 Abstraction
 Meiosis - is a process where a single cell divides twice to produce four cells containing half the original
amount of genetic information. These cells are our sex cells – sperm in males, eggs in females.

 Application
 Activity No 2: “VENN DIAGRAM”
 Strategy/Approach: THINK PAIR & SHARE
Instruction: Together with your partner make a VENN DIAGRAM in a 1 whole sheet of paper,
compare and contrast mitosis and meiosis. After 5 minutes, one 3 pairs from the class will share
their work from the class.

IV. ASSESSMENT:
 Instruction: Answer the following questions. (1/2 sheet of paper)

1. List the correct sequence of steps in mitosis. (2 points)

2. During which phase of mitosis does the cell copy its DNA? (2 points)
3. How many daughter cells are produced at the end of mitosis? (2 points)
Essay (4 points)
4. What is the importance of mitosis in the cells and in the human body?

V – ASSIGNMENT
 Instruction: Read in advance about Gregor Mendel and answer the following questions: (1/2
sheet of paper)

1. Why Gregor Mendel known as the Father of Genetics?

2. Write and state the 3 laws of Mendel?

VI - Closure:
 Sharing of a Quote and Closing Prayer
