Youth Talent Showcase
Youth Talent Showcase
Significance:-
It has great importance in according to current scenario because India is rapidly growing
and also India have presently 70% of youth. In future youth demands such type of shows
because there is no such type of shows currently which gives platform to youth in such a
cut throat competition. It benefits to those youths who came from Tier2 or small
cities, towns, they don’t have platform nor any source to show there talent.By this show
they can show there hidden talent, which makes there future bright and in India these type
of shows surely get success because as we all know thousands of youth are going to
Mumbai to every year to show but only very few of them will get success.India is
developing very fast ,parents are now focusing there on his/her child to be creativity
also, earlier it was not so much.In earlier days parents only focussed on studies they
neglected about there child interest or his/her creativity, but now time has changed parents
also focusing on there child’s interest. So these type of Shows make parents to think atleast
once that they can give there child permission to participate in these type of shows. So these
type of shows can give India a lot number of talents.
Youths also get the chances so that need not to go somewhere. This show opens a wide path
for youths who are talented and also it helps them to achieve there prospective goals.By
this show they can make contacts, which is the very and most important thing of Media &
Entertainment Industry.Youths will never get such opportunity like this Reality Show does.
Objective:-
Page | 1
The first and most important objective is to provide platform to youths who has the ability
to do something and who has got talent, but they don’t have platform to show there
talent. To provide them a path to expose themselves.
The second objective is to sell this concept to some T.V channel and make huge profits .
The third objective is to gain maximum TRPs so that channel as well as show gets too
much popularity so that it will benefit the future of both TV channel as well as Show.
Limitation of Study:-
There are certain limitations of study of this topics which conducted Online Survey and
Manual Survey. There are some people who havnt fill the forms seriously and also they
leave questions where explanation needed, this is the place where study lacks. In Manual
survey people also people have done the same thing, where the term WHY came they left
the question and also some people are in very hurry to fill up the form,so it is the major
draw back and limitation of this study,or to do the analysis of the survey. We all know each
and every survey is not accurate there are some limitations to it,it is 80-85 % accurate rest
15-20% is not accurate, there are some lacks in them.Sometimes people think different
write something diiferent in survey form, there views may be different but to avoid
explanation they sometimes ignore that thing and fill something else in form. Its also
depends upon there mood ,if they are in good mood they will film the forms more
accurately and vice versa, otherwise they just do formality to fill the form.
"Reality shows, defined as television programs in which common people, without the help
of a script, are placed in a specific human situation and their reactions and behavior filmed,
are becoming tremendously popular throughout the world. In the United States, Kim
Campbell, a reporter with the Christian Science Monitor, counts at least ten popular reality
shows on American television. On British television, Sam Brenton, author of "Everyone's
A Winner," reports that there are currently at least five extremely popular reality shows. In
the Arab World, there are two twenty-four hour, seven days a week ones, which keep
viewers glued to their televisions for hours. In light of the international popularity of these
shows, it is clear that the popularity of reality is based on the fact that they reveal the
universal aspects of human nature itself. In other words, the popularity of reality shows is
based on what appears to be a universal human attraction to voyeurism, the sight of people
being humiliated, insulted and exposed at their most private emotional moments.
Therefore, while many such as the media critic, Lewis Grossberger, author of "This Is
Reality?", may criticize television producers for creating the reality show program type and
stress that these shows communicate low and unethical moral standards, the truth is that
Page | 2
reality shows are simply a response to viewer demands and taste. While it is true that the
content of reality shows aim to bring out the worst in human nature, rarely allowing the
display of positive behaviour, the fact is that reality shows can communicate a constructive
message insofar as they exposes the nature of society, how people behave in competitive
situations, what people will suffer and do for money, and how we enjoy that suffering,
motivating viewers to reconsider their values and priorities. Therefore, even though reality
shows are correctly criticized for being both unrealistic and based on the senseless
humiliation of human beings, reality shows are realistic regarding human reactions and
behaviors, and communicate important lessons about the hidden sides of human nature."

Article 1:- Reality Waves hits Indian Television
Is the era of soaps and family dramas on television coming to an end? Do people prefer a
reality show to a prolonged television drama?
Yes! The times are a-changing and the buzzword today is reality shows. These shows are
all about formats and television programme producers see a huge opportunity in India for
them.
So what are formats and how do they work wonders for broadcasters? With the
unprecedented success of programmes like Kaun Banega Crorepati on Star Plus and
Indian Idol ] on Sony, it has been proven that formats are a huge success in India.
KBC and Indian Idol have made history in terms of people's participation and have been
great revenue generators as well.
Fabulous formats
The excitement of putting up a show like Indian idol reflects in the elucidation of Sanjiv
Sharma (of Optymystix Productions) on what constitutes formats. "Formats can either be
dramas or non-dramas. A drama could be something like the Jassi Jaise Koi Nahin and the
best illustration of a non-drama programme is Indian Idol. But the fact is there is a lot of
drama in non-drama formats, which leads to the programme's success," Sharma said at the
session on 'Building successful formats' at the annual entertainment event Frames 2005
organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Mumbai [
Images ].
"The best thing about a reality show is that it is real, it is interactive: the viewers could
decide who would be the Indian Idol," he adds.
"Reality shows see the dreams of millions of Indians come true. They relate to the
characters who appear on the shows, and this makes the shows more meaningful than any
tearjerker. The money-spinners can be in the form of quiz shows, panel shows, celebrity
guest shows which give the audience the power to decide the next move and also be a part
of the great show," explains Sharma.
The concept of a format show has evolved over the years; it varies from in different places.
And yes, formats work wonders.
Page | 4
"There have been shows like Khulja Sim Sim, a remake of the American show, Let's Make
A Deal. Here the viewer could play and participate in the show. Same with the case of
Kismey Kitnaa Hain Dum, a remake of famous British hit, Night Fever. It featured a
karaoke contest where viewers could sing along.
"The best part about these shows is that the viewers went through the trials and tribulations
of the participants. Indian Idol was a complete reality show: a reality show and a talent
show as well! It was a result of a cleverly constructed screenplay, which empowered the
audience to select their personal favourites so it clicked," Sharma says.
Idol worship
When Freemantle India came to India with the idea of launching Indian Idol, the company
never imagined that it would take the country by storm.
A remake of the famous hit, Pop Idol, which has set record in all countries, registered
historical ratings in India as well.
The ingredients of an ideal reality show is simple, "It must appeal to all. It is a craft, it is a
drama that unfolds in front of you," says Gavin Wood, director of production, India
Freemantle Media.
"The idea should be original and entertaining. The best part of a reality show is that it
guarantees success and there are valuable lessons to be learnt about viewer's tastes and
preferences. The reality shows makes sure that the dreams come true and the risk of
shattering the dreams of many others," says Wood, who has tried and tested the format in
other Asian countries as well.
Humility was the key to the success of Indian Idol, says Nikhil Alva, Chairman, Miditech,
one of India's leading production houses.
"It was difficult to change the 'reality sucks in India mindset.' It was a 24x7 nightmare to
produce a programme like Indian Idol," says Alva. Indian Idol has changed the mindset of
the broadcasters who are more open to reality formats, which are certain to click.
Wood says that the only thing to keep in mind is, "The format should be tested and proven,
the content has to be localised, the format should not be altered as small changes can bring
far reaching effects."
"India was an interesting market for us. It was challenging because it wasn't just a singing
competition; the size of the production was huge. Dealing with the crowd, collecting the
votes was difficult as we received 35 million votes for the last episode," Wood reveals.
Page | 5
Chances of copying exist but the chances of failures are 90 per cent as people favour only
the original show.
After the huge success of Indian Idol, Freemantle Media plans to host in India one of their
most popular shows later this year. "We are planning to introduce The Apprentice, later
this year. The show will be telecast on the Star network," says Wood.
Agrees Anupama Mandloi, program director, Sony TV, "Reality show is a huge market in
India. The search for memorable characters was difficult. We knew that anything to do
with music and Bollywood would be addictive. Our success proved that 'reality is stranger
than fiction'."
Indian formats
"Made-in-India formats have their own charm. It is all about people's participation, journey
to fame and a lot of passion and emotion," says Tarun Mehra, vice president (marketing)
Zee Network. Highlighting the reality shows on Zee Network, Tarun Mehra said that
formats as simple as Antakshari have proved that India has the potential to develop and
sustain such formats.
"Antakshari was born on September 3, 1993 and is the oldest running format show in the
country with about 600 episodes. More than a million people across the world have
auditioned for it. Another success has been Sa Re Ga Ma, which also brought talented
singers like Shreya Ghosal [ Images ] to the forefront at a very early age. The recent
Cinestar Ki Khoj introduces young talent to the glamorous world of Bollywood.
Announcing Zee's next mega plan, Mehra said, "Our next reality show will be Business
Baazigar [ Images ], which the catch-line -- Idea lao, Paise le jao -- a game which will test
the intellectual and entrepreneurial capability of people of different age groups. The whole
idea is to bring forth the power of an idea and provide them the finance to take off," says
Mehra.
Agrees Wood, "India has a great potential to produce its own formats. We may discover
some formats that existed earlier and got sidelined or forgotten. We can work on them as
well. Indian formats have the potential to go global as the passion and creativity in India
grows in the years to come. This will drive the growth of the television industry in India."

This is the information about the Talent Hunt show, which tells there is a basic need of
making a talent hunt shows, which is not to be scripted .India is the country which needs it
because there is lot of talent in India, and also the show should be neat and clean means to
say today’s all talent hunt shows are scripted, and also rude languages used by Judges to
increase the TRPs of the show and Controversies created by them,so there is need of such
talent hunt shows which is entirely different from other shows, and it should not be
scripted. There is cutthroat competition in media and entertainment industry becaue lot of
youths coming up with there creativity, talent so they are searching for platform to show
there talent,it now a need for them to prove themselves. So according to my opinion talent
hunt shows should me made and it should contain some unique qualities what other shows
don’t have.
Article 3:-
With the international television sector coming up with new concepts for Reality TV
Shows, India is not far behind. With new reality shows being introduced on Indian
television everyday, the viewers are left much to choose from.
Reality television in India have been received as a welcome break for many audiences
across the country who have become tired from the Ekta Kapoor’s saas-Bahu serials which
seem to have no end even though the serial had fast forwarded to the 4th generation and
miraculously and the Ba still managed to be alive and is fit as a horse. It was not only the K
serials which were dominating the television but also many other and we had much to
move on from when the reality shows arrived.
Reality TV shows in India is still on a blossoming stage and mostly includes the desi
versions of the reality shows broad casted abroad. Despite the copy cat attempt the
shows are gaining a lot of popularity in India and we should be expecting more pioneering
concepts on television soon enough.
These shows in India can be dated back to Channel V’s talent hunt for five singers to make
a music band. A rip off P Diddy’s show on Vh1, it still managed to gain a lot of popularity,
especially from the youth. Another reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati’ hosted by our
Page | 8
very own superstar Amitabh Bachchan was a major hit with the audience and the show
marked the beginning of series of reality shows in Indian television, many of them being a
rip off or pre existing reality shows abroad.
The most watched reality shows on Indian television would be the shows introduced by
MTV. How can anyone ever miss Cyrus Broacha’s attempt on confusing and leaving his
victims in utter bewilderment on MTV Bakra. His wicked pranks left all the viewers in fits
of laughter. Another very famous show introduced by MTV would be MTV Roadies. It is
the longest running reality show on Indian television and still is very popular with the
young generation today. Along with these there were many other such shows that were
introduced and gained if not more but the same amount of popularity among the audiences.
Indian Idol, a singing competition telecasted on Sony where both boys and girls ruthlessly
competed amongst themselves to win won the heart of the viewers. Another singing
competition on Zee TV Sa Re Ga Ma which had started out small but became super
glamorous as the season increased, was also very much loved. The controversial show on
colors- Big Boss was also a major hit amongst the audience
Everyone enjoys a good laugh and The great Indian Laughter Challenge was just the show
for everyone to see. The hunt for the unbeatable comedian created a laugh riot and all the
contestants gained immediate popularity regardless who was crowned the winner. Reality
dance shows like Nach Baliya and Jhalak Dhiklaja was also very popular. With celebrity
showcasing their dancing talents it became a huge success as well.
Reality shows have become a huge trend among the audiences today and since there seems
no end to the creative inventions of show producers we should not be shocked when more
newer concepts are introduced which would make us question reality itself and till that
happens just sit back and enjoy what reality television currently has to offer.
Reviews on Article:-
This article summarises that there are various Genres of reality shows like Laughter
Challenge,MTV roadies,in this adventure is there.Frankly speaking it is the copy of
International Market but it works.Above article tells that Reality shows beat the Saas Bahu
type family dramas serials, which are daily soaps.Saas Bahu serials which was one of the
highest gain Trps programme, due to reality shows it affects badly, because in India 70%
population is youth so they don’t have any interest in thses type of family dramas, they have
different mind set and different views.so the above article proves that there is a need to
make more reality shows but it should be in some different manner. It also proves it is only
source to generate high revenue in TV industry because people vote for their favourite
contestants, they ca generate money by Sms and many other ways.
Page | 9
In present scenario there are lot of reality shows are there ,so in order to beat them we
should create something different which audiences want because audiences tastes changes
very rapidly,Indian youths get bored very soon so we should create a different platform so
that every audience takes interest,we should make show more and more interesting. It also
compares that, starting shows like Indian Idol,KBC gained so much popularity because they
were new concept and there were no competetors among themselves. So they take this
advantage o being Unique show. But now there are lot of reality shows. So its very difficult
to compete with them.If we bring a new concept then it is easy for us to give them a
challenge and survive in market. In order to tap the market we should read the audiences
mind, what they actually want? So it’s the conclusion of the all 3 articles.
Guys and gals watch out. If you can sing, dance, act or just look glamorous, then it's time to
flaunt your assets. For there are opportunities coming your way with talent shows set to
surge the telly space.
After the success of the Amitabh Bachchan hosted Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), various
other channels zoomed in on the idea and started airing variants of the show. It's now the
turn of talent hunt shows with different channels planning different formats. Almost all
channels, including the popular ones such as Star Plus, Sony and Zee, are planning to
launch such hunts. While Sony has acquired the rights of the international popular
programme Pop Idol from Fremantle, Star Plus will come out with its own desi version
called Indian Superstar. Zee has already started running promos of its venture India's Best
Cine Stars Ki Khoj. And that's not all, Channel [V], after the success of Pop Stars I and II,
has started its search for glamour kids who could Be A Supermodel and Star World has
begun its quest for India's Child Genius.
And the channel that is able to strike a chord with the audiences may just be a super
winner. According to industry analysts, these shows will not only be able to generate
higher advertising and subscription revenues through popular content, but will also be able
to tap a third source — interactivity using mobile phones. In the West, where such shows
are already the rage, viewers who wish to place a vote for any of the interactive shows on
television can do so via telephone or on the Internet by paying as little as a few pence. And
the response has been tremendous.
In the UK, for instance, Pop Idol received 32 million telephone votes throughout the series,
while in the US a record was set for mobile-orientated messages with American Idol
receiving 7.5 million messages during the series.
Some of these channels, which are involved in other entertainment businesses such as films
or music, can also find fresh talent for almost nothing. Both Star and Zee have interests in
Page | 10
film production.
To add to the attraction, Zee is planning to give the two winners of the contest a chance to
feature in movies produced by the company along with other big names.
The company claims that it has signed up popular Bollywood stars such as Salman Khan,
Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta to star in these movies alongside the new talent.
But will such concepts take off, considering the fact that other reality shows launched after
KBC did not receive a good audience response? Sunil Lulla, Executive Vice-President,
Sony Entertainment Television, maintains that reality shows boost viewership. KBC for
instance catapulted Star to the number one position by giving it the much-required push.
But since then, the channel has not shown such a significant growth in viewesrship.
"Reality shows not only bring in diversity to the programming. They are successful only if
drama and excitement can be built into them. Also, these shows are aired only for short
periods of time as they are expensive to produce," he says.
Conclusion:-
The above article tells that there are too many shows are going on,too many reality shows
and they are getting good response and there is also a interaction between audience and the
show,so they are generating higher revenues from reality shows because realityshows
involves both drama excitement.
Talent hunt programmes on television provide a platform to the aspiring youths who want
to make a career in the film industry, actress and film maker Pooja Bhatt said today.
“Such platforms were not available earlier and these days the talent hunt shows like Zee
Cinestars definitely provide a good opportunity to the youths as they are managed by
industry professionals including directors and choreographers,” she told reporters on the
occasion of final selection of Idea Zee Cinestars programme here.
Asked about the future of candidates selected through such shows, she said it depends on
their performance in the industry. But definitely the kind of opportunity was not available
earlier, said Pooja, one of the judges for Zee Cinestars.
The programme will shortlist 60 contestants from different cities and finally select two
promising couples who would be given an opportunity to act in a film likely to be produced
by the Zee, she said.

Acclaimed both in India and around the world, Shubha Mudgal is among the leading
vocalists of the younger generation in the realm of Indian Classical Music (Hindustani). She
is also known for her successful forays into folk, devotional, popular and film music.
The much beleaguered world of Indian classical music, struggling to keep its head up in the
face of all odds, has now been dealt a spate of cruel blows by an unlikely enemy – the
hugely successful, steadily burgeoning string of talent hunts on virtually every television
channel in the country. At least two of the many talent contests on television channels have
decided to go the ‘classical’ (pronounce ‘klaasikal’) way by cheekily appropriating terms
connected with Indian classical music with a lack of sensitivity that doesn’t surprise me in
the least. What does amaze me is that the many purists and traditionalists and great
vidwaans of Indian music have stood mute witness to this bold daylight robbery, and at
times have even aided and abetted it without so much as a murmur.
Let’s first take a look at the greatly successful “Fame Gurukul” on Sony Television. I have
a big axe to grind with whoever coined the name for this show because he/she or they
obviously never went to one. Why does one go to a gurukul in the first place? I would
imagine it would be to obtain “Gnyaan” or knowledge, wisdom, mastery, skill and
expertise, but certainly not fame or money. The knowledge gained from the gurukul may
then prepare the learner for a life of success and fame and glory. But nowhere in the Indian
tradition does one hear of a gurukul for fame alone.
Further, a gurukul is always presided over by the guru, a Master who imparts knowledge to
disciples. Not so at Fame Gurukul, if we are to believe what we see! Frankly, all I have
been able to see of the two young gurus at Fame Gurukul are the briefest and often most
apologetic shots of two young individuals, one male and the other female, seated
occasionally with one or the other participant across a harmonium. More television time is
given to the horseplay between the participants or even their outings and shopping sprees
than to their actual “taleem” or learning sessions! Hey, how about renaming the show
“Forget Your Gurus Gurukul”? What? No? Aw shucks? That’s too many syllables, says the
numerologist? Sigh!!!
Worse still, the young participants are made to dance and gesticulate while singing with the
admonition that it isn’t enough to just sing. You have to be a ‘performer’ to succeed in
today’s world. By that logic, it would not just be difficult but well nigh impossible for Lata
ji, Asha ji, Rafi Sahab, Mukesh ji, or even Shankar Mahadevan and KK, two brilliant
singers who also judge the Fame Gurukul contest, to win had they been participants. All the
recording and dubbing sessions I have attended have had most singers come in and stand in
front of a mike and deliver the song without any of the shenanigans that are now forced on
the young Gurukulites. In fact, as far as I can see, the poor young things might have been
able to sing a trifle better had they not been made to swing and shift around unnaturally.
And that brings me to “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005” on Zee TV, the other contest with
a professed classical twist! Fortunately, this show doesn’t insist on having the contestants
gyrate while they sing, and that perhaps is one of the reasons why we hear some better
singing on this show. Unfortunately, that is also one of the only good things I can say about
Page | 12
the show because on this one the five mentors namely, Aadesh Shrivastava, Ismail Durbar,
Jatin-Lalit and Himesh Reshammiya, all successful music directors for Indian films pose as
Gharana specialists. The term “gharana” is typical of Hindustani classical music and
denotes a distinct musical style taught to members of a family or to successive generations
of disciples.
A gharana, we are told by the old and wise, comes in to being only when at least three
generations of musicians follow the same style. But director Gajendra Singh obviously
didn’t listen to the old or wise, did he, when he decided to bestow gharana-dom on the five
willing mentors he chose for his show? They didn’t even bother to analyze whether they
had a distinct musical style to claim as their own. After all, musical styles are not created
on the fast track. Not only does it take decades for a musical style to evolve and mature, but
a pre-requisite of a gharana demands that several generations follow the same style. How
come there isn’t any R.D.Burman Gharana or a C. Ramachandra or a Jaidev or even a
Vanraj Bhatia Gharana? All of these composers had unique musical styles that were typical
of them. And yet they didn’t claim to have formed gharanas! What are these mentors
hoping to teach their young charges? Music, musical style or sheer arrogance and swagger?
As mentors, they have a responsibility towards their charges and the least they should do is
to give them accurate information about music. And to be able to do so, they will first have
to relinquish their claim to being leaders or founders of gharanas.
Another pseudo classical touch to this show is the little puja that each participant is made to
undergo with his or her mentor, modeled on the gandaa-bandhan ceremony that students of
Hindustani music observe when they are formally inducted into the guru’s extended family.
The five mentors on Challenge 2005 willingly go through this sacrosanct ceremony on
television, heedless of the fact that their charges may have been learning for years from
some other guru and will probably go back to the same guru after Challenge 2005 makes
way for Challenge 2006 or whatever else is to follow. Surely they are aware of the protocol
followed by Indian musicians? No honorable musician accepts another musician’s disciple
as their own unless the disciple can prove that the transition is being made with the
permission or “ijaazat” of the former guru. If the director of the show is unaware of these
niceties and etiquette, surely the mentors themselves could point out the weak links,
coming as some of them do, from families of classical musicians.
I must point out here that I don’t have the slightest intention of pulling down talent hunts. I
have nothing against them and the fact that they are acquiring epidemic proportions is
proof enough of their popularity. What I am protesting about is the long lasting effect they
will have on young minds. Two years from now people may believe that a gurukul is a
space on television where you do the most embarrassing things you have ever done in order
to be declared a Super Singer or an Idol or a Golden Voice who finally gets to sing a
“Chavvanni” Or “Athanni” wala song. If the makers of these shows are keen on promoting
classical music, how come they haven’t ever thought of presenting a show dedicated to true
blue classical music? Thousands of deserving young students who devote their lives to the
serious study of Indian classical music would benefit from the opportunity and we would
all get to hear some good music too in the bargain. Anyone listening? Mentors, directors,
Page | 13
sponsors, heads of channels? If you are, how about bursting into tears on the show and
admitting that you haven’t been fair to classical music so far! After all, it is reality TV and
would make for great television!
The verdict is out! STAR Plus’ money-spinner ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ with Shah Rukh
Khan went live on Monday and has opened up to just average numbers.
According to TV audience measuring body aMap’s overnight figures, the first episode of
the new series was viewed a TRP of 5.3 (C&S, 4+, North, West and East India).
Among the metros, Mumbai has garnered the highest viewership with a TRP of 6.3,
followed by Delhi at 2.5 and Kolkata at 2.
In fact, these figures are lower than the opening figures of KBC 2. As per aMap ratings,
KBC 2 had garnered a TRP of 9.5 in Mumbai, 6.5 in Delhi, and 5.4 in Kolkata.
However, when compared to other shows, KBC 3’s performance was better than the top
scoring shows of the previous week. For instance, as per aMap, ‘Kyunki Sas Bhi Kabhi
Bahu Thi’ was the highest scorer last week with a TRP of 4.7.
The study revealed that 60 per cent of the viewers have decided not to miss any further
episode of KBC3. And the other 40 per cent will watch the next few episodes for sure. In a
similar pre-programme study done by OMS and Hansa Research, only 21 per cent had said
that they wouldn’t miss any episode and 71 per cent preferred sitting on the fence.
The comparison between KBC3 and its previous series would be incomplete without the
comparison of two hosts. And the OMS-Hansa Research survey reveals that 69 per cent
liked the way Shah Rukh Khan conducted the program and interacted with the participants
and the studio audience. However, in the pre programme survey, 58 per cent had said that
Shah Rukh Khan would not be as good a host as Amitabh Bachchan.
Rival measuring body TAM will release its statistics later this week. Keep it with
BizAsia.co.uk to find out if KBC 3 will be able to pick up or sustain its TVR in days to
come.

reality shows have become very popular.
Marketing Professors Randall Rose and Stacy Wood believe viewers desire to blend fact
with fantasy in order to create a complexly constructed experience they call
"hyperauthenticity."
Rose and Wood say the blending of real and fantasy is the difference between simply
watching "real" programming, such as CSPAN, and engaging and interacting with a
program such as "Survivor."
"We argue consumers blend fantastic elements of programming with indexical elements
connected to their lived experiences to create a form of self-referential hyperauthenticity,"
explain Rose and Wood. "In contrast to news programs, however, the majority of reality
fare depicts common people engaging in uncommon (wilderness survival) and common
(home-redecorating) tasks, giving viewers the chance to compare and contrast their own
lives with those of the show's 'protagonist.'"
The say the shows' popularity persists because the viewing experience is inherently
different than that of other television programs.
There are some TVR ratings if some reality shows which describes how effective they are
on audiences mind. These TVR ratings I got from Mr. Nawaz Ahmed who is our faculty of
Strategic Media Planning. This TVR ratings are 1 month old,its not the latest. But even
though it signifies the importance of Reality shows in India.
Under this there is a Pie chart which shows the comparison of the all Genres
of programmes which telecast on T.V.

Conceptual Framework
Use our observations, interests, passions, and life experience to discover a subject that may
hold entertainment value. So we are going to create a concept which is unique and entirely
different from other reality shows or talent hunt shows.
Create a Format:
Study the format of other current reality-based programs to learn how certain shows are
structured, and create the format that would best serve our show idea.
Create a Title
In television, the Title tells it all. Word-play is often used to create fun titles that are both
compelling and clever. The title of our reality show should tell what the show is, and
inspire the producer's and audience's imagination. It should make people want to tune in, or
in the case of a producer being pitched, it should make them want to read your project
synopsis. "Fear Factor", "Survivor", "Blind Date" and "American Idol" are all great
examples of titles that are both simple and exciting.
Page | 17
Create the Short Pitch
A "Logline" is a short, one or two sentence description that tells exactly what the show is
about, and usually includes the unique hook or angle of the show.
It has great importance in according to current scenario because India is rapidly growing
and also India have presently 70% of youth. In future youth demands such type of shows
because there is no such type of shows currently which gives platform to youth in such a
cut throat competition. It benefits to those youths who came from Tier2 or small
cities, towns, they don’t have platform nor any source to show there talent.By this show they
can show there hidden talent, which makes there future bright and in India these type of
shows surely get success because as we all know thousands of youth are going to Mumbai
to every year to show but only very few of them will get success.India is developing very
fast ,parents are now focusing there on his/her child to be creativity also, earlier it was not
so much.In earlier days parents only focussed on studies they neglected about there child
interest or his/her creativity, but now time has changed parents also focusing on there
Page | 18
child’s interest. So these type of Shows make parents to think atleast once that they can give
there child permission to participate in these type of shows. So these type of shows can give
India a lot number of talents.
Framework
There are too many ideas which can support this concept. After creating this concept we
need to execute it.So the question is how can we can proceed it?
Step1
First of all the advertisement done by the channel who will buy this concept on so that
youth get noticed about this show/concept.
Step2
When awareness spread among the youths related to this show,we will provide them the
online forms to participate in this show.
Step 3
After having all these things ,participants first show there talent on 1st level Judges, there
episode wil not be telecasted on T.V. first they have to clear 1st round/stage then they can
come to 2nd round. If judges will satisfy from there performance then participants can move
into 2nd round, where the judges are from various Big Media companies .They decides there
faith and if they satisfy from there performances they can even hire them, and give them the
chance to work with them.
Step4
Like in other reality shows judges behavior is so rude and they are so much of partial, but in
our show judges are will behave in descent manner and every episode judges changes, and
also there is no fake things will be shown to people but it will be real only,no scripted thing
will involve in our show.
Step 4
Every week 2 episodes will be telecasted, first we make 52 episodes,if response is good
then we will surely continue.
Page | 19
talent that’s it.It is the only show which gives the people to cance to work with Media
personalities, they can even hire them on the spot they,if they like the performance of
participants and it is the place where contacts can be made very easily. The thing is the
impact of the partipants performance on Judged mind if they like it then they will provide
work and the career get geared up.
In the first episode we show the inauguration of the show by various media personalities
and selected participants perform there talent and in between of the show there will be
some surprises for participants some celebrity can come or those who perform better, and if
he.she cannot afford to buy that instrument, then it can as a gift.,and the end of the show
every contestant will be provided a certificate and the judges who came to judge there
performance they officially announce that they are going to hire that participants whose
performance is good.It will continue in rest of all episodes. If there will be good response
then it will surely continue for the next season.
To me, reality television is the portrayal of real life, in some way, in some unscripted way.
The closest thing to reality television is documentary. What a documentary is to films,
reality television is to television. I guess that's the easiest way to say it. Although all of
reality television, and to be honest with you, all of documentary work, even in film, is
manipulated in some way.
Reality television has been around literally since the birth of television. The earliest forms
of television were game shows, talk shows, and panel shows, where people came on the
programs. People don't really count news as reality television, but anything that's showing
your life and recording as a real event can be construed as reality television. It's really
anything that's not fiction. It's any form of television that is not about made-up characters
doing made-up things in a made-up plot. Most of television actually is reality television.
From the very earliest days of television, the object was to get a lot of programming for not
much money. That's true today now on cable television, but in the very early days of
broadcast television, they were under the same problem, that they weren't making a lot of
money on advertising, so they had to generate programming at a low dollar. In general, the
most efficient way to make television is through reality television, through putting a real
person into a situation and seeing what happens, because it's a good way to get something
interesting without having to plan it all out and make props, and hire script writers and
directors and things. So, the earliest forms of television were reality concepts, and they
Page | 20
were talk shows, game shows, hidden camera shows, and, very quickly, very clever people
found ways to make interesting little games or formats where you could repeat the same
set-up over and over again, but plug in new people and get a whole different show, and that
became extremely popular. That's where game shows came from, because you could set it
up once, you could build one set, you could have one set of rules, one basic script with little
holes in it for where you put the questions, and you could do that show over and over
again, but every time you put a new contestant in the chair, you would have a completely
different show. That became a very efficient form of television and really took over in the
early days.
I think the current wave of reality television came from two simultaneous forces. One was
the wearing out of a lot of the scripted genres. The sitcom genre was the main dominating
force in television in the seventies and eighties and even into the nineties, and it became
tired. It was too predictable. The sofa, the wacky neighbor, the stairway in the back: every
sitcom started to look the same, and started to use the same kind of platitudes, line
sequences, and format. Every sitcom starts with the family in one place. They all go
through something crazy and then by the end, they're all in exactly the same place they
started. It just got tired. Force number one in the current wave of reality television was that
the sitcom became very tired, and force number two was there was a real need for
inexpensive programming. There were no longer just three networks with all the money.
Suddenly there were cable channels who needed programming. There were satellite
channels, and now there's the Internet. There are so many different ways to get television
that the need arose for lots more of it. Because it started spreading out, television became
more democratic, and there was a need for low cost programming. You basically saw what
you saw when television was first born: a push towards, "Wow! If we can just build one
set, and have one set of questions and one script that I can just fill in new trivia questions
to, I can do five of those a day, and 65 of those in three weeks, and that's an efficient way
to do television." So you saw a resurgence in game shows and a resurgence in these reality
contests.
I feel that reality shows are popular with audiences today because it is the unpredictable
medium. The audiences will always love sports, because you never know who is going to
win. With football, every year the same two teams will play each other, every year the
players even might be similar from year to year, but it's still breathtakingly exciting to me,
because I don't know who's going to win and anything can happen in that particular game.
Reality television delivers on that level, which is that it is not predictable like a sitcom, or
even like a crime drama. On CSI, they are going to figure it out. In reality television, you
don't know that. You don't know what's going to happen. Who's going to be portrayed,
what's going to fall apart, who's going to cry, who's going to laugh, who's going to be
friends. It's almost impossible to predict the outcome of a reality television show. To that
extent, I think they are very popular because they satisfy the audience for that need for the
Page | 21
unpredictable.
Reality television has come to dominate our schedules now. They are low cost to produce
relative to dramas and comedy, because their ratings are at least at the same level as those
things often do or sometimes higher. The highest rated shows of all at the moment are
reality television shows. Because they're cost-effective and ratings-effective that's a win-
win. You're going to see reality television on television for a very long time.
The pioneers that I look at in the modern age of reality television are Bunim & Murray who
created The Real World, which really was one of the first of these social experiment type
reality shows. That was then taken a little farther by Mark Burnett, who I believe was the
pioneer of the big competition show. He drew on what Bunim & Murray started, which was
a social experiment idea. I can take real people, force them to live together, and get
interesting television. But what if I made it worse for them - What if they were starving?
What if they needed to rely on each other for food? What if they needed to rely on each
other to compete with other tribes? He brought all that stuff into reality television. The
other thing he brought to it, that he still does better than anyone else, is an epic feel, a
cinematic feel to reality television: beautiful setting, beautiful photography, beautiful B-
Roll, which is the little bits that we see in between the scenes. He photographs them
gorgeously, with time-lapse photography, done on film - nature photography - and he
throws that all into the soup, with the most basic of human conflict - man against nature,
man against man, and created Survivor.
This idea of doing a social experiment reality show with people, and putting them in some
kind of weird situation, or live in a fish tank, or live on an island, was pioneered by Bunim
& Murray. They said, "We could make a soap opera out of real people just trying to be
roommates." It turns out that the difficulty of bringing different people together to become
roommates, almost like freshman year of college, is interesting. It's always interesting to
see people figure each other out, get to know each other, make friends, make enemies, try
to figure out a bathroom schedule, work out who's leaving stuff in the refrigerator, etc. It
turns out being roommates creates a lot of conflict. That early reality show, The Real
World, was basically the opening point for all the reality television that has come since.
Survivor is really a pioneering show. It really blew up because it was the first of the
network shows. The Real World, the pioneering show, was on MTV. But it doesn't have
the same audience level; it doesn't have the same panache. When CBS did one of these
shows and it was such a hit, that's when things really exploded with reality television. Mark
Page | 22
Burnett is still to this day the gold standard of reality show producers, in my opinion. He
handles the biggest budgets for his shows; I think he has the most consistently high rated
network shows and he has also proven that he can do it, not just in Survivor format, but
also in The Apprentice format and other things that he has created very successfully.
I think when somebody refers to documentary versus reality television, I think that the
people doing documentary are trying to keep to some kind of journalistic standard, I
imagine. The truth is that it's not that black and white. If you're trying to make an
entertaining documentary, you are probably manipulating the story a little bit so that it's
entertaining. You're either compressing the time line a little bit or you're amping up some
of the emotion, even with music. Even adding music to something can enhance its
emotional impact, and it's not journalistically rigid to be adding music. The news never
adds music to their presidential interviews, whereas a documentary maker will. If we look
over all that, the people who think they're doing documentaries are trying to adhere to some
kind of journalistic portrayal of the truth, without interfering with what they're filming.
When people do reality television, I think it's pretty much acknowledged that they're
telling, in general, a true story, but there's a lot of creative leeway with the editing, with
how you amp up the emotion of the story that you're telling - not just through simple things
like music, but also through careful choice of interview bites, even manipulation of
interview bites to help tell the story. Reality television is basically a social experiment more
than a journalistic look at real life.
Conclusion:-
It shows that reality shows create a broader impact on audiences mind in present scenario
on audiences mind and it a new birth in Televison Industry,it just like a boom for them.It is
Page | 23
one of the highest revenue generators in this Industry.Reality shows are entirely different
from documentaries which was once upon a time was good medium to give any message
to industry.
Essentials
In current scenario people think every reality show is scripted, its true,so we have to keep in
mind while doing this show, there should be no controversies or hype be created so that
people think its also a fake show. This is the major factor we should keep in
mind.Competetion is too much with other shows so we should always differentiate
themselves ,then we can lead the market, and marketing staryegy to market the show should
be one to one and should be very effective, because in present scenario marketing strategy
plays a vital role in success of any product or show. There should be legal permission from
govt that we are going to launch such type of show.It is also very essential that we should
associate our show with some big brand like KBC was hosted by Mr.Amitabh Bachan.and
there were too many big brands associate with shows to make show more enthusiastic and
more popular.Youth will get atractd if they see that this show is associate big
brand/celebrities,because todays’s youth want name, fame so they definitely come and
participate in this show and we’ll get better responses and Trps also. This will lead to the
success of our show.
There are certain rules and regulations of this show, which should not be broken. It should
always keep in mind in the judges and tha participants. If any one found to break the
rule,he/she will be disqualified from show. This rule also applicable to Judges also. They
cannot use rude languages/comments to participants and they cannot even discourage them
for there performance. They also cannot be biased because in every episode judges
changes,so there will be no question of biasness.
'In America you're a nobody if you're not on TV.' That was Nicole Kidman speaking as the
ambitious weather girl in To Die For, Gus Van Sant's caustic comedy on the overpowering
tug of small screen glamour. It's a sentiment echoed by the very many Indians who seem
willing to go to any length for their 15 minutes of fame on the idiot box. And TV, in turn, is
promising to make that sweet moment of glory stretch beyond the confines of a half-hour
serial episode.
Talent hunting is the flavour of this TV season. Every other channel has a talent hunt
Page | 24
show that says—if you have it, flaunt it and television will instantaneously turn you into a
soap star, a Bollywood star, a model or a pop icon. Channel V and the Elite modelling
agency have put together a model hunt called Get Gorgeous. It will also align with Subhash
Ghai for [V] Discostar, an international hunt for India's new glamour girl, who will have
the chance to perform in a song (read item number) in an upcoming Mukta Arts film.
MTV has joined hands with soap queen Ekta Kapoor for a talent hunt show for her
forthcoming venture, Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi, which will be the first soap to be aired on the
music channel.
Zee claims to have invested Rs 100 crore in India's Best: Cinestars Ki Khoj. The
winners get to star in three films to be produced by Zee Telefilms for a combined budget of
Rs 20 crore. Their co-stars? Salman Khan, Preity Zinta and Akshay Kumar. Currently, two
male and two female finalists from 20 cities are being groomed by Kishore Namit Kapoor
for the national finals. Coming soon on Zee Music: Item Bomb Blast, a search for a
"beautiful, hot and happening" girl to dance with Sanjay Dutt in an item number in his film,
Musafir.
Sony too has plans for a show with the tagline 'sab kuch bhula de', which would hopefully
make you "forget everything else". Indian Idol—the desi version of American Idol—will
have viewers selecting India's pop icon. A panel of judges from the entertainment world
will also monitor the contestants.
These shows are clearly enticing enough to have the youngsters swarming up to shake their
booty. "The response is fantastic, the talent level is awe-inspiring," enthuses Amar Deb,
head honcho of Channel V. In the capital alone, 21,000 people turned up for the auditions
of Cinestar Ki Khoj while Mumbai saw a crowd of 12,000 and other cities had about 6,000
participants on an average.
"In cities like Pathankot, there was a spillover from neighbouring small towns as well. In
Delhi, the first participant lined up as early as 2:15 am," says Ashish Kaul, group vice-
president, Essel Group. Similarly, for the MTV talent hunt show 22,000 youngsters turned
up in Mumbai, 7,500 in Delhi and 600 in a small town like Mughal Sarai.
Clearly, everyone wants success, the easy kind, that is. "Fame is a big trigger for the young;
we create opportunities for them," says Vikram Raizada, vice-president, marketing, mtv
Networks India. No wonder Ekta Kapoor screams from the MTV hoardings: Life bana
dungi.
The participants sound as excited. Take Nazia Khan, a 19-year-old from Kota, Rajasthan,
who is a Mumbai finalist for Cinestars. She feels that youngsters in small towns have talent
but get no opportunities to showcase it. "It's a great platform for newcomers, it makes you
feel confident about yourself," she says.
Talent hunts are nothing new to Indian telly. Programmes like Sansui Antakshari and Hero
Page | 25
Honda Sa Re Ga Ma on Zee TV were the launch pads for popular playback singers like
Sunidhi Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal. mtv had organised VJ hunts in 1997, 1999 and
2002, which threw up motormouths like Nikhil Chinappa and Mini Mathur. The entire cast
of Ken Ghosh's Ishq Vishk came out of an mtv talent hunt show. Channel V has had
Popstars, which led to the creation of pop acts like Viva and Aasma.Proliferating channels
and omnipresent TV cameras have now made the trend a lot more in-your-face.
MTV claims talent hunt shows are also an attempt to break programming formats. Their
show works in three ways. As an on-ground "screen test" event, then a reality TV show
about the making and training of the participants, about their happiness and
disappointments as they go through the rigours and finally the telecast of the soap in which
they'll get an opportunity to act.
However, at an essential level these shows simply reflect our society's changing attitude:
we are losing our reticence and inhibitions, letting our personal lives come up for public
scrutiny, and are amusing ourselves with the frailties and foibles of people we don't even
know. Now that's entertainment. Or is it?
Conclusion:-
The above article shows there is a change in society behavior, attitude in watching the
shows they are switch over to reality shows from serials, and there is too much competition
in between reality every one wants to change the concept, every one wants to bring the new
concept like MTV Hero Honda roadies was the very new concept, because it has adventure
and youth likes it.There are so many shows of the same type only slight manipulation in
them, its too difficult to distinguish between reality shows.
TELEVISION REVIEW
What Makes for Good Reality Show? Clear Rules and a Few Twists
Reality programs are often disparaged as rigged documentaries, but only by people who
don't watch them.
If you're paying attention, you know that shows like ''Survivor,'' ''My Big Fat Obnoxious
Fiancé,'' ''The Apprentice'' and ''The Bachelor'' are not bad documentaries at all but decent
Page | 26
game shows, offering, with few exceptions, cash prizes to winners. These shows hold
reaction shots longer than ''The Price Is Right'' or ''Family Feud''; that's chiefly what makes
them take an hour and earns the name of reality.
The best of these contain the tightest games where the rules are clear. When a show
introduces too many twists, its ratings drop, as they did with NBC's ''Average Joe,'' which
ended Monday when Larissa, her appetite for love dampened by a dozen pointless ordeals,
chose a cute Florida guy over a Boston oddball, only to get dumped herself because she had
once dated the romance-cover cover model Fabio, a left-field fact disclosed in the final
minutes of the show. Fox's ''My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiancé'' also lost its brio as the game
shifted from a comic engagement to a family's agony over it, and sporting Randi came to
seem a tragic figure, someone out of ''They Shoot Horses, Don't They?''
But that was last week. And Fox isn't wasting any time before supplying viewers with new
reality contestants to puzzle over. The network's latest contraption is ''Forever Eden,'' a
lemon that had a two-night premiere on Monday and Tuesday. Without a tight premise, this
show will become one of the disorganized ones -- a vaguely sexual convocation on a
tropical island from which players will be given coins or banished for unclear reasons, and
then not banished, or told to banish someone else, all at the whim of the producers.
Fox casts its reality shows with no more or less cynicism about demographic stereotypes
than any other channel. But its producers have a keen eye for especially shrill, grasping
people.
Though their specs resemble those of the ''Bachelor'' and ''Bachelorette'' contestants --
radiant complexions, jobs in sales -- the Fox folks seem to hail from another world. Among
the ''Forever Eden'' crowd there is little mention of god or family; no one claims, as they do
on the earnest reality shows, to be principled, on a journey or looking for a soul mate.
Instead they party. They want sex. An illuminating exchange occurred on Monday's
episode when Jordan explained himself to his new friend Michael. ''She may be racist and
ignorant,'' Jordan said of a white girl on the show. ''But I still might have sex with her.''
Was that cool? Michael, who is black, laughed; no problem.
To inspire lines like that, ''Forever Eden'' conjures the usual tiki-bar ambience still
doggedly associated with paradise. Cut-aways from the action show palms and crashing
waves, cliffs and pinkish sunsets. Will every tropical island someday be home to a reality
show? Will seafarers of the future find the ruins of an old CBS Tribal Camp or Fox
Page | 27
Banishment Temple and wonder what wondrous creatures dreamed of having sex with
racists there?
Let's not worry. The stakes are high in Eden. Last night Mary, Jordan's intended, faced
banishment, mourned, rallied, lashed out and finally chose to banish herself. She took a
craven muscle man named Craig with her. Although, as one of them put it, ''a part of us just
like totally left,'' the remaining contestants played truth-or-dare and made out with each
other. All the while they tried to decide who among them was ''doable.''
Periodically on Monday's and Tuesday's episodes, Ruth English, the show's haughty host,
appeared to issue new directives, sententiously reminding the group of laws of Genesis or
nature. ''The apple of Eden can bring good or evil'' was one; ''You reap what you sow'' was
another. Among themselves the players had already traded wisdom in solemn tones:
''Everything happens for a reason,'' ''Girls go more by their emotions.'' They took the
lectures like good pupils.
That was disheartening. Soon enough viewers and players will be expected to drop the
assumption that the game on ''Forever Eden'' requires strategy and thus might be worth
attention. After that jig is up, the network will hope we'll keep watching for the characters.
Badly built reality shows go on, depending for plot on sex and spats, relying on expository
voice-over and editors to infuse them with some postproduction coherence.
In the meantime the spectacle of these latest reality kids trying to divine sense from
nonsense as the producers scramble to fit arbitrary actions into a plausible game might
almost make your heart go out to them.

Methodology Adopted
Objectives of Methodology:-
Page | 29
Methods of Data collection:-
1) Online Survey
2) Manual Survey
1) Online Survey:-
The online survey is made with the help of google docs where you put up all
questionnaires in survey form, and send the link to all of friends, relatives, colleagues
etc.through mail.you can also send the links to various social networking sites like
ORKUT,FACEBOOK etc.In social networking sites there are various communities made
by students, where we have send the links and also collected good responses.
1) Manual Survey:- There are some questionnaires in the survey form and
distribute to class mates in college, they filled the form and also visited some Multiplexes
like Garuda Mall in Bangalore, where we have collected lots of data, we collected enough
data. Our main motive to visit these places because these are all places where we youths are
more in numbers.
Sampling Methods:-
Simple Random Sampling Method is adopted for Manual survey form.and in Internet it
automatically gives the result.
Sampling is done on the basis of Age,Sex,Occupation Talent hunt show is for youths so we
are more focused on youths .All questions are on the basis of taste and preference of
youth, means to say what type of show they actually want, and questionnaires also includes
that the show which we are going to make should me made or not. This type of show will
make a broader impact on youths mind or not.
One question is also on the basis of the judges behavior, keeping in mind there
behavior. They are so rude and partial while talking to participants.so there is a question in
questioannire that there should be some CODE/ETHICS for judges or not, most of the
Page | 30
reponses they say Yes there should be some code and ethics for them,so that they cannot
misbehave with contestants,as in other reality shows judges do..
Abstract Online data collection is becoming an essential and efficient tool for evaluators,
researchers, and other educators. This paper touches on elements of the rather short, but
eventful history of online data collection. A brief review of the current literature is
presented, followed by a list of pros and cons to be considered when stepping into online
surveying. Finally there is a brief look at what makes the online survey run—a database
connected to the Internet. For those who would prefer, alternatives to creating or hosting
your own online surveys are offered. The paper closes with contemplation toward the
future of online data gathering.
The data which collected is equally reliable and valid because it has been done from
Internet and Manual survey,so every one uses this method to collect the data, even big
MNCs also adopt this Internet method for data collection tool.so this method is totally
realiable and valid.
Data Analysis
There are many questions which I have made for the survey,on the basis of that questions
and responses of people, the analysis to be done.So following are the questions which I
have made for my survey .:-
