GRP LINING TO THE CONCRETE TANK
METHOD STATEMENT
1. All concrete surfaces to be lined to be lined be dry and cured (Surface preparation by
main contractor).
2. All the floor areas to be lined shall be checked for proper slope wherever slopes are
inadequate additional concrete screed can be used to get proper slope.
3. Any surface imperfection such as pitting from depths 3 to 8mm will be filled with an
Polyester resin paste. (Refer to Material Submittal)
4. The working area of the concrete wall surfaces will then primed with an Polyester
resin (Polylite 440-741 E Potable water tank Ortho Resin) to provide a good key
between the concrete and subsequent GRP lining.
5. Lamination works shall start as soon as the primed with an Polyester resin (Polylite
440-741 E Potable water tank Ortho Resin) to provide a good key between the
concrete and subsequent GRP lining.
6. Apply one layer of chopped strand glass fiber mat M501 impregnated with Polyester
resin (Polylit 440-741 E) @an approximate ration of (3-4) : 1.
7. Second of lamination work shall start as the first layer has sufficiently hardened
(when the lack side of the primer coat feel slightly tacky when touch by clean fingers).
8. Apply second layer of chopped strand glass fiber mat impregnated with Polyester
resin (Polylit 440-741 E) @similar ratio.
9. A final coat of resin NORPOL (GELCOAT 2000 GS) will be applied on the lining to
over any exposed fiber.
10. All the laminate to laminate joints shall have fiber overlap of 100 mm.
11. After completing the lamination of tank allow for drying and inspect all area of lining.
12. Should any visible defect be noticed the area shall be grinded / roughened and a
GRP overlapping at least 20x20 cm shall be applied in a manner similar to the above.
13. Water test can be conducted once GRP is fully cued.
14. Fill the tank with water and mark to the level on the wall.
15. Check the water level after 24 hours and see the difference in level (if any) taking into
consideration slight reduction due to evaporation / others.
16. Should any leak be observed the empty tank shall be thoroughly inspected and
area(s) of weakness be identified.
17. Two coats of (Gel Coats 2000 GS) to be applied for the ceiling.
18. Repeat the water testing.
19. 10 years Guarantee will be submitted.
