1. Process Information
 Zylite Stabilizer is a special additive to replace boric acid in acid zinc plating electrolytes.
 Following Atotech processes are suitable for using Zylite Stabilizer : Zylite HT, Zylite HT-MB, Zylite
HT (BC), Zylite HT Plus, Zylite HT Plus (BC), Zylite HT-MB Plus, Zylite 1160, Unizinc ACZ 570,
Zylite ST 40, Zylite 11-50, Zylite 290 and Zylite 290A
 Old boric acid containing baths can be converted during production to Zylite Stabilizer.

 Zylite Stabilizer benefits

 Liquid additive – easy addition, dosing can be automated
 No precipitation of Zylite Stabilizer during production and breaks
 No boron in waste water stream
 Polarization of anodes is avoided
 Nontoxic additive to replace toxic boric acid

2. Make-Up
Make-up of 100 l Liter kg
Zylite Stabilizer 9.0 11.25

 Concentrations of other ingredients can be found in the relevant technical datasheets of the relevant
process
During Make-up of an electrolyte add Zylite Stabilizer after the addition of potassium chloride
 During conversion of an electrolyte with boric acid to Zylite Stabilizer the dosage amount is delivered
by the technical support of Atotech.

3. Maintenance
Make-up Operation
Zylite Stabilizer 90 ml/l 70 – 110 ml/l

Zylite Stabilizer
As a guideline, 15 – 20 liters Zylite Stabilizer should be added for every 100 kg of potassium chloride to
replace drag out.

4. General Safety Precautions

Avoid direct contact with this material. Do not inhale associated mist or vapors. Wash contaminated clothing
before reuse. Refer to Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for specific precautions before handling this material and for
first aid recommendations. As applicable, keep exposure below the limits recommended by the appropriate
regional regulatory agencies.

For further information on product safety refer to the corresponding SDS. The SDS
is enclosed at the first delivery of a product. Otherwise a SDS for a product is
available on request from the appropriate regional Atotech office.

6. Analytical Instructions

Version: 07
Determination of Zylite Stabilizer by Titration Doc.-No.: EXT-1031-TIT-07

Principle:

Acid-Base Titration

Important note: This method can be conducted in boric acid free electrolytes only.

Reagents required*:

 Sodium Hydroxide standard solution 0.1 M

 Hydrochloric Acid, 0.1M
 Indicator solution (0.04 % solution of Bromo cresol purple in alcohol)

Please follow the general regulations for hazardous materials in the Material safety
data sheets!
The analytical procedure is to be followed exactly.
Be sure to observe all local regulations concerning the permitted limits for
pollutants.

Equipment required:
 Standard laboratory equipment
 pH-Meter
Procedure:

 5.0 ml** sample solution are pipetted into an Erlenmeyer flask and filled up to
 100 ml with DI water.
 Adjust to pH 4.0 with 0.1 M HCl and
 Add 1 ml of indicator solution.
 Titration is now performed with 0.1 N sodium hydroxide standard solution until the color changes to
grey-purple.

The consumption in ml of 0.1 N sodium hydroxide standard solution *** used – multiplied by the factor 3.156
gives the content of Zylite Stabilizer in ml/l.

Example:

For the titration of 5.0 ml of the sample solution 12.46 ml of 0.1 M sodium hydroxide standard solution*** was
used.

Calculation:

12.46  3.156 = 39.32 ml/l Zylite Stabilizer

Quality assurance: For maintenance, calibration of measuring devices and the use of
standards and reference materials please refer to the corresponding guidelines.

* Unless otherwise stated, these are always analytical grade substances.

** Volumes given exact to a decimal point must be measured with a volumetric pipette.
*** For the purpose of calculation, the factor of the standard solution is assumed to be 1.000 and is
therefore not taken into account in the examples.
