Fault mode diagnosis

Fault mode Detection conditions:The engine control unit (E-ECU) registers: intermittent signal loss or
FMI 2 signal error (EA37/EA38)
Symptom: Possible causes:

 Red central warning  Electric interference on speed


 Buzzer sounds one time signal
 Error message screen  Loose connection
 Low power because of engine  Poor insulation or defective cable
protection  Incorrectly installed sensor
 Engine runs rough/ varying engine  Defective sensor
speed  Damaged gear teeth on flywheel
 Misfiring
 Engine stops/cannot be started (on
condition that camshaft signal is
also incorrect)
 Engine is difficult to start, only after
a long time of cranking

Sensor and gear teeth inspection

Fault mode Detection conditions:The engine control unit (E-ECU) registers: that the signal from the
FMI 3 speed sensor is missing (EA37/EA38)
Symptom: Possible causes:

 Red central warning  Loose connection


 Buzzer sounds one time  Incorrectly installed sensor
 Error message screen  Defective sensor
 Low power because of engine  Positive cable short-circuited to
protection voltage
 Engine runs rough/ varying engine  Positive cable short-circuited to
speed frame ground
 Misfiring  Negative cable short-circuited to
 Engine stops/cannot be started (on voltage
condition that camshaft signal is  Open circuit on positive cable
also incorrect)  Open circuit on negative cable
 Engine is difficult to start, only after  Short-circuit between cables or in
a long time of cranking component
